Default Logging winch

I am doing some looking for a friend and he needs a logging winch for a 50 hp tractor. Question, anyone know where there might be a used one for sale that only requires a little tinkering? He may even buy new if the price were right and shipping not to bad. Thanks.

Deerlope I would image that there are a lot more weekend warriors here at TBN site than actual loggers. The majority of good folks here will be more than happy to help if they have an answer to any question. And there are also a lot of folks here at the TBN site that merely read posts to educate themselves. The next time that you get a chance go to the who's on-line link and take a minute to look at all the unregistered lookers/lurkers. Surprisingly, there are lots of them. Good point about weekend warriors, I never looked at my post in repect to them. Thanks.
I am going to post an ad in the local Free Trader. I would let my friend use the winch that I built but he has a 75HP tractor(cat 2 hitch) and my unit is too small.

Deerlope I hope that Free Trader helps you in your search. And you still may have a few leads yet to come from TBN members that have been unavailable to reply so far.

Guilty as charged. Take a look at "Iron & Oak SB-03" log skidder. It's a grapple attachment for the three point. Log Skidder

Deerlope, I too looked at your request but dedn't have an answer for you. I built winches for tractors for a time back in the eightys but at that time there didn't seem to be that much interest in them. Maybe I should take onother look at making some. I have seen the farmi and it works for most folks. I know that I am biased, but I was raised working in the woods and around logging equipment. In my opinion the farmi puts a lot of undue strain on the tractor 3pt so it is hard for me to recommend them. If you have the resources to make one I could put up some pics.

Dear DeerLope
Sorry, didn't mean to diss you. But........

Read your original post, and then please don't wonder why we didn't answer your question, which was ""anyone know where there might be a used one for sale that only requires a little tinkering? "" I know a fair amount about logging and winches, but I don't know where a used one is for sale, and don't think my posting the answer of "I don't know" is efficient use of web space or of everyones reading time. Probably (maybe?) 77 other readers of your question didn't know the answer either.

I like to try to help when I can, and I am quiet when I don't think I can help.

The Farmi Winch is one I have experience with, and it works good. Because it has a blade that rests on the ground, I don't see that (at least when winching logs in) it causes undo stress on the three point, as mentioned. Maybe when towing logs to a landing, there is stress, but I think 3pts are capable of handling that stress. Could be wrong, 'cause I know I don't know everything.

Deerlope,
You probably know this already, but Your local NH dealer sells the Farmi winches. I think their prices are as good as anybody's and you wouldn't have to pay shipping.
