My question is why you worried about saving the anti tamper cover. Anybody paying critical attention could tell it had been off. Why not just be blatant?

Keeps dirt out of the adjustment for later tuning would be my first guess.

Well, in Teds case, the machine was way out of warranty so no worries. The main thing I got from the video about overheating was the dyno. I think he specifically mentioned that he felt the factory tractor cooling system was well up to the task.

Lets not try to over complicate it. At the end of the day, it is just a diesel engine, mechanical fuel pump, mechanical timing, same as the other 20 million being used every day in different applications. It isn't the variable valve timing, drop a cylinder for efficiency, magnetic suspension, collision avoidance, computer controlled idiot box commuter car being forced on us by the establishment.

Having said all that, mine stilled bogged down trying to scoop a full bucket just like it did yesterday, even after 2 full turns. Never saw any smoke, it might have all been stopped by the afterburner, probably, but my Butt couldn't tell any difference at all. I left it at a turn and a half up, going to knock down some trees tomorrow to see if I notice any difference from what I had last spring. I doubt it though. Without a dyno I don't think the most calibrated buttocks will be able to tell the difference from 35 to 45 hp.

Darn sure CAN tell the difference between the factory hydro setting and what it is cranked up too now. Not going into numbers for fear of the safety nazi factory warranty police roaming around here but that mod made a huge difference in lifting and digging.

Try going up a big hill and see if it pulls the hill any faster than what it did with the stock fuel setting.

The one hill that I have didn't seem to make much difference honestly. I opted out of the radio for my cab so I could listen since I'm a gear head from childhood and love the whine of the turbo, the feel of the machine, etc. I simply see or feel no noticeable difference so far. It's only been about 4 hrs on the clock since I cranked on it, I'm up to 240 hours on this one. I'll do my normal for a few days to see.

I'll be tilling some virgin ground in the morning, maybe I can tell something then. I'm only 1 1/4 turns up, the plastic hat is gone now. With the after burner I'm concerned I'll never see smoke so proceeding slowly. As best I can tell the afterburner is the ONLY difference from a 3038. It might just go away at some point in the near future, but it has also presented zero problems so far so why bother? It fires off every 4 hours like the atomic clock, can't tell any reduction in power while it is running. I really don't see a downside to the addition. At the same time..... I'm the guy who dumped the TBI and put an Edelbrock carb, intake, and no Cats duals on his 88 454 flatbed the day he got it.

He's not worried about it, but no one will be able to tell when he's finished with it.
