I have a Ford 4610. 30 acres of timber and 10 or so pasture. convince me why I should buy this :) Can I pull things out (stumps, posts, bushes, etc.) better or safer than I could with FEL or via chain/drawbar? Seller claims it lifts very high, but I just don't know how much force it would have. I know it could work well for dragging out logs, but most of them I cut up in place and haul out as needed. Any other thoughts? It has been coming down in price (currently at $350) and was curious if anyone thought it's worth biting on. I have very few attachments and am fairly new to the tractor. Thanks in advance!

That looks like a very nice piece of equipment! Just the frame is worth the present asking price.

But, Don't expect to pull stumps with it ;-)

Posts and bushes? if they are not too well stuck into the earth. Logs? Chain to the draw bar will be safer, just get the butt up off the ground.

I would say the lifting pulling capacity would be about the same as a FEL built of the same material. ... (pretty light duty)

But, I would buy that if it were near by. ;-)

The cylinder looks pretty big so it probably lifts quite a bit. I wouldn't use it to hook to and pull with the tractor. The draw bar is safer for pulling forward. I would use the boom only for lifting up. I think the loader on your tractor lifts 2500 pounds. At the closest hook the boom probably lifts more than that. Does your tractor have rear remotes?

Agreed. Seems dangerous to pull much with it attached to the boom unless it was free and dangling. Trying hard to think of things I'll be lifting straight up and want to move that I couldn't do with a FEL. If I planned on removing a lot of engines, maybe?

CalG - That's why I have a hard time passing it up. Looks well built and in good shape. I have the rear remote to run it as well.

Need a few good ideas for the wife to understand we why "need" a twelve foot long boom sitting around...

Things that go high when talking about tractors always pose an increased risk of tractor tipping. Spend your money on something more useful, like beer...

No argument there.

Or more trout fishing gear. I like your handle.

It is not something I would buy to lift with, maybe before the days of FELs being so common, but not today.

Lifting and loading machinery onto trucks and trailers etc is the sure use I would have right out of the box.

Might even use it to lift the big rounds up on the splitter. The bucket works, but the view is crowded.

That should work well for carrying and lifting heavy objects- but don't think it will help with stumps at all.

I also tried and succeeded removing them with a grapple on my 55 hp tractor (about the same size as yours) .
But it was was a hard and tedious job.

If the budget is tight I would check out a stump bucket like EAs wicked root grapple.

pretty sure that 4610 loader is fairly stout and would work well with a grapple.

I finally got tired of fighting stumps and got an 18000 lb. JD dozer with hydraulic rippers on back and although it is hard on manicured ground it easily removes stumps.
Another thought would be a backhoe attachment but for the money my recommendation would be a stump grapple.

PS

You might want to check out the stump grapple thread that is active now...
