I am thinking about ordering a tooth bar for my BX from Carver Eq. I need to clear a area for my pole barn. I need to take about 6 inches of grass and topsoil off. Does anybody have one on a BX 2200 and is it asking a little to much from my tractor? I need to clear a 35 by 45 foot area. Clay soil, some frost. Thanks, tjmcd

Tooth bar on a BX I can not answerbut land clearing yes. It would be best to wait till the frost is out, The BX can clear it but it will just take a little longer that if you had a bigger machine.

TOOTHBAR is a very handy tool, would u have any use for it after the project u mentioned? it is great for loosing hard soil, and u can do what u want to, but i would waite till the frost is out of the ground, no sense making a tough job tougher

tjmcd,

Do a search for toothbar and you will find a lot of positive reports about them.

Hummm...come to think of it...report back if you find a negative report! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I guess there may be a couple...can't remember any though...

You will probably be happy you got a tooth bar after you try one. I know I sure am...

I use the toothbar about 75% of the time. Quickly disposes of most ground work, except making a nice smooth grade, for that leave the bar off and use the bucket along with boxblade on the rear.

The other thing the toothbar is great for is as a perch or stop for helping to carry things like fence posts or lumber when you don't have pallet forks.

In a pinch, you can use it as a digger instead of a backhoe if the ground is not too hard and you take small bites.

I dug a 24 by 30 foot area in clay with my BX22 FEL and no toothbar. It was a lot of work. I have since installed a toothbar and dug slightly smaller area and the toothbar made it much easier and quicker.

tjmcd,

I just put a new tooth bar on my bucket, and it is great. check out www.ezattachments.com and they will have pictures. Here is a picture of mine taken just after installation. Two bolts and its off again.

Good Luck, Les

Hi Les - I've seen the web page you directed us to - have you tried the toothbar on anything yet? It looks like there are only two bolts holding the bar and I'm curious if the contact edge gets loose if you really hammer it into hard ground. Does it look like a lot of the stress is passed through to the two bolts, or is it spread out along the bucket edge? Sorry for all the questions... I'm really interested in how this works out for you.

I've been using my FEL to begin re-grading my driveway, but as the other posters have mentioned in another thread, the frostline is very difficult to break through. I've been using the BH then cleaning up with the FEL. Right now I have a bolt on edge on my FEL bucket, so I may be able to buy a toothbar that fits the existing holes.

Thanks,

Hi,

I have the same toothbar as Smithla, less the paint.

The bolts do not do anything except keep the toothbar from rotating/flopping around and to keep it from falling off. There are a number of rivits between the teeth, that actually contact the the lower lip of the bucket. You can see them in between the teeth in Smithla's attachment.

You do not have to hammer the toothbar on at all. It slide easily on and off. You do want to make sure it is on all the way before you holesaw the mounting holes. If I remember correctly, the holes are 1" and for the supplied shoulder bolts.

I am not sure if this style toothbar could be used with a bolt on cutting edge or not. I tend to think not...but don't know for sure.

I've attached a photo that shows the inside of the toothbar which rests against the bucket edge. Several of those rivits [for lack of a better term] are visable...

I've got a tooth bar on my bucket . And it's great for all the uses mentioned above . It also makes a good "poor man"s " rake for moving brush when the bucket is curled down .
