Hi folks.
I have looked trough the archives, but didn't find a clear answer. So...
I need to get a tooth bar for my FEL bucket & would like some advice on which one to get.
First, I have a good root grapple & a backhoe & a Woods BSM 72 box scraper, so I don't need a tooth bar for ripping up roots or breaking new ground. What I want it for is taking off the top layer of clay/soil (thick gooey muck) where I'm building several hundred yards of driveway & walking paths.
I'll probably use the box blade to do much of the scraping, but need to scoop the muck up & move it away.
So... Which would suit my purposes best? A Piranha, or a standard tooth bar?
I like the look & the cost of the Piranha, but my feeling is the more traditional style tooth bar would work better, for me.
Thanks in advance, for any advice offered!
Dan

I have a Piranha on mine and I use it to shave layers of dirt. It really digs in and seems to break up the dirt better than the straight edge on the FEL. If it digs in too hard, I just curl the FEL up a little. It takes some practice, but the Piranha picks up a lot of dirt without too much effort. I've only stalled my tractor once and I've leveled quite a bit of land.

I believe a tooth-bar would be better for digging.I wouldn't be without mine.

Agreed, but the stated purpose is skimming. I'd go with the Piranha ... oh, wait ... I did.

The general rule seems to be tooth bar for stony soils, piranha for no rocks. My Piranhas do well in clay.

I agree.......Piranha does well. I have used mine for scraping.....digging.....removing blackberries and small trees. I never remove it from the bucket. Well made product. Good luck!

Piranha it is, then. Couldn't find a rock to save your life on our land. Well, there are a few rocks, but we had to import them & they are mostly buried deep in the driveway.
I guess it would be a lot better than a tooth bar for back blading, too. It'd be nice to be able to do a quick back blade without having to remove the bar...
Thanks Folks! Dan

Definitely the PTB for back blading IMO. Smooth bottom edge the works as a wear plate too.
