Howdy,
We purchased a used Ford 22-124 flail mower which I believ is also known as a 907 model. After mowing with it a few minutes, the belt burnt off. We dismissed this occurrence to dry rot and purchased a quick spare. I don't believe it's an exact match 54" 5/8 belt as opposed to the 56 7/8 belt or 57" belt (it seems that folks use different sizes and I have another question about that). Anyway, the belt is on and will mow really well and then it will start to slip/squeal/smoke and not mow. after stopping it, it appeared that the tensioner spring wasn't holding tension and may have been occasionally rubbing against the belt. How can we best determine what's causing the problem and could it be something more serious like a bad bearing.
I'm new to tractoring so any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated!
