I have jerry rigged this unit to a Cub Cadet 1620 with a 32" mower deck and it works just great for what i have intended it for: I have a church-kitchen/food bank/garden of about 1 to 2 acres. I plant almost 200 tomato plants (10 to 15 varieties) over 200 watermelon plants; 150 cantaloupe; peppers, cauliflowers; cabbage;egg plant; etc. etc as well as row upon row of sweet corn. In the past I would mow a large section of grass and suck it up with a track vac. If I did not use the clippings within a day or 2 they would began to clump and matt together making it hard to mulch around the base of newly planted transplants. I then came upon the HastyVac v-60 (used-,e-bay) at what was a very reasonable price and it looked almost brand new and unused. The fresh clippings I obtain with about 2 or 3 passes to fill 9 bushels containers is perfect and does an excellent weed control for me and it ultimately mattes around the plants.
But...then I noticed a moderate oil leak spot after parking the unit overnight. The Briggs 5.5 Intek engine has 2 oil (intake/level check orifices...at the bottom of the engine, 1 front and 1 rear of the engine.. I tried to get a parts schematic from HastyVac to see what each of these oil openings were or did they both serve the same oil reservoir (pan). I can not tell if the oil is leaking from the engine drive shaft seal to the vacuum impeller. They sent me a sales brochure flyer instead. I would like to know how the engine drive shaft articulates with the vacuum impeller fan. Where or what are the seals like?
Now there is never a day that before I start up I check the oil in the Briggs and always fill it to proper level. Yep...today one pass and I turned off the engine to unload and then I could not not pull the recoil starter cord. I opened the vac and I could not budge the impeller (fan). Now I am not sure if there is a bearing articulating the engine drive shaft to the fan or is this an internal engine problem such as a thrown rod etc. Before dismantling this unit I would like a rough road map as what to expect/ or better yet where to begin.
Any one out there in the vast "fruited plain" have a parts schematic on the HastyVac v-60 or where can i get one?
Thank You-all
