Anyone know where I could find a good cheap used one around the MD area?

What size are you looking for? What do you call cheap? You might try Tree Trader
Happy Tractoring (or Chipping)

Thanks Chipperman, but I think those are all a little bigger then I need. I'm looking for either a PTO drive unit or one that runs off of electricity (preferably single phase but can be light three phase).

None of the above. Actually my company manufactures cellulose fibers. One of the products we make is a ground up newspaper fiber (kind of like the stuff blown-in insulation is made from). We sell it in 1000 lb super sacks for certain applications. One potential customer wants to use it as a peat moss substitute. Only problem is that his mixing line does not have a system in place for re-fluffing our fiber before it is mixed in with his compost, pine bark and other ingredients. A local dairy farmer uses our out of spec material as bedding for his cows. He simply takes our compressed stuff and puts it in a tub grinder and blows it into his stalls. Works great!

Have you considered a manure spreader? I would think it would be easier to load and do a better job of fluffing up the material. It'd be cheaper and easier to find used.

Funny you should ask. The farmer that we sell to does use a manure spreader for his larger pens and it works fine for him. He only uses the tub grinder for the calf pens. The problem with the manure spreader is that it doesn't really re-fluff the fiber to its full volume.

For the replacement peat application we are trying to achieve a greater volumetric efficency (reduced cost) so they would like to get at least 50 lbs/cubic yard from our material.
