Hello again! Been a while since I posted. I'm buying a new rotary cutter likely this coming weekend and having a tough time deciding out of a Bush Hog BH15 and the Woods BrushBull BB60X. Any ideas or opinions? How is the BH15 compared to the previous Squealer models? Is the Woods better built or Bush Hog is?

Has anybody had problems with bending or breaking PTO driveline on the BrushBull when lifting the cutter too high?

Still deciding on slip clutch or shear pin model.

Any advice/opinions is welcomed.

The BH15 and BB60X (or XC) are the only cutters I'm interested in. Not buying anything else.

Thanks

Hi Travis, This is Al. I purchased a BH15 about 3 months ago and am extremely happy with it. I have put this unit into some heavy use along creek and river bank areas-you never know what has washed up from flooding- high gone to seed pasture hogging, and tough woods hogging. My tractor is 39hp and handles this very well. It is a quiet smooth and tough Bush Hog hence the name.View attachment 437523View attachment 437523

You can't go wrong with either, we use Woods and Land Pride, no local BH dealer. I like the quick change blade design on the Woods, but if you don't remove the blades regularly it would sure not be a deal breaker.

I have a brush bull 72x and had 0 issues with. I have it in 10ft tall grass/weeds. I have lifted it as high as possible on 2 different tractors and it did fine.

I'm sure with any of the main brands you will be fine. They all build great product. Most diffences are minor

You can bend/break the PTO driveline on any rotary cutter if you lift it too high. Is there anything special about the Woods design that makes it more susceptible to this problem?

Last year I bought a BH14 equipped with a shear pin. Had a slip clutch been available on the 4' model, I think I would have gone that route, but I haven't sheared a pin yet.

I have a Woods BrushBull BB60XC, bought new in 2007.
Zero problems with the mower or the PTO shaft.
The "hanger" they built into the frame to hold the shaft when it's not in use is a nice detail.
It's always ready for work and I haven't exactly been gentle with it.
Hickory and elm saplings are t-o-u-g-h shredding.

By the way Travis, I did not mention that the unit I have is the slip clutch model. This has helped me tremendously on some pasture hogging. You know the ones with secret tubes that only stick up about 12" and have buried T- post the same height? You cannot physically walk every square foot of property of 4' high junk. Again good luck with your purchase. Al.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I do like the Woods BrushBull but the Bush Hog looks to be built better in my opinion.
As of now I plan on going sommewhere Saturday to buy the BH15 slip clutch model. I called and got prices from 8 or 9 different dealers. A couple were $300 higher than the rest!! How do they even sell them at their prices?
The 2 local dealers were within $40 of each other and I do prefer 1 over the other and they cheaper of the 2. Another dealer about 60 miles away in another state is $135 less than the local dealer.

Now I'm faced with drive 60 miles to save or buy local for more.

As for the dealer that's $135 cheaper, I do have to deduct fuel costs there and back.

Also, what do you think would be considered a good deal price wise on the cutter?

Thanks to all.
