This is going to sound dumb, and you'll think I'm a city slicker out of my element (which is an accurate assessment). I'm on 6 acres that has weeds that if been keeping down with a bush hog and a John Deere 770. When I recently purchased this tractor used from a private party, it came with an FEL, Box Blade, double row discs, a home made ripper attachment and a field and pature cultivator.

I'm not sure the best way to utilize the cultivator, and discs.

I'll soon start reclaiming this land (which has a lot of heavy clay) a 1/2 acre to an acre at a time to plant lawn, bushes, trees, etc. I can get rid of the weeds with roundup and a 25 gallon spray rig. What's next? There are some baseball size rocks on the land. I don't know if I should run the rippers through first, then the cultivator to bring up the rocks (if it will do it), then the discs to turn it over, add soil ammendments, disk it agian, the level it with the box blade or get a landscape rake for that.

I'm starting to research this and am meeting with a landscape designer next week.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Green Acres all over again.

Thanks for any suggestions

Joe

Personally, I would just step up the mowing on the area you are working on and keep it mowed more regularly and a bit shorter. I am doing that on several of my pasture areas right now and along with using a drag harrow to loosen the top soil and overseeding, it seems to be working nicely. Much less weeds as compared to when we moved in the fall of 2002, much better grass coverage.

Problem is I've got a lot of non grass weeks, thistle, etc.

I recovered about an acre of thistle, raspberries and saplings. I started a garden up @ my property. I used a chain saw and high wheel trimmer to get me started. Didn't own a tractor yet. After I got the brush and weeds under control I finally talked the other half into letting me get a tractor. I used a 1 bottom plow and discs and worked the soil. I then sprayed with Amine400 D to get all the broadleaf under control. Then dumped a ton of lime to get the PH right and finally got the garden going for the last couple years. The animals are trying to eat most of the stuff but it sure is enjoyable. Woodchucks are the biggest pigs at the beginning but then the raccoons wait till the corn is just ripe............
