John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

I have not been able to attach the 54" front blade to the hanger that came with my 4010 tractor. I have two attachments a 54" mid mount mower and a 54" front blade. The mower is easly installed but the bracket for the blade does not have the correct holes for the blade to mount on the hanger. This new equipment replaced a 318 with the same attachments that provide 21 years of easy and reliable service. I have had this problem for two months now with no resolve from the dealer or John Deere.
Thanks for any help!!

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

I know that on the 400 series lawn tractors, the front hitch setup is different than the 4000 series compacts. The attachments will connect at the quick-hitch point, but the other portions are not the same. The situation with the 318 is probably similar.

It may be the case that you need a new front hitch, and perhaps even a new tilt/angle mount. If it is the latter case, then the only piece that can be re-used is the blade itself where it connects to the quick-hitch.

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

You are not going to care for this answer, but the only piece that converts to your 4010 is the moldboard. I am on my third generation JD (445, 2210, and now 4110) and have had to trade the front quick hitch and hydraulic angling kits at each graduation. I still have the original moldboard, however.

You can check out the JD Parts website to get the exact part numbers for the front hitch bracket, quick hitch, and angling kit. The differences between the garden tractor hitch and the 4010 hitch are in the height of the hitch from increased ground clearance (angle of attack), the hydraulic connectors and hoses, and the configuration of the front-end frame (but you already figured that out....)

It is frustrating, and perhaps your dealer can help you with a trade-in on the old hitch. Don't count on much of an allowance, however. You may be better off selling your older hitch yourself. There are several JD garden tractor clubs on-line, or you could advertise it here at TBN.

I have heard a few people threaten to make their own adapters, but have never heard of a follow-through. I thought about having an adapter made but it was almost as expensive as the OEM parts and I was able to negotiate a fair trade in as part of my graduation discussions with my dealer. Wish I had better news for you... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

BTW, your dealer would know this if he looked up the parts or contacted corporate technical assitance. Doesn't sound like he's trying very hard /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

Thanks, for the information.
I wondered if you have the part number for the front hanger on your tractor?
Does your front hanger have one set of slots and two sets of holes or one set of slots and one set of holes?
I think my problem is in the front hanger. The reasons for the two previous questions are that my front hanger works perfect for my mid-mount mower but does not work for the quick hitch bracket for the blade. My dealer and Deere keep telling me these are the correct parts. A dealer has even been to my house and he couldn't install the blade either.
Do you by any chance have a picture of your front hanger?
Thanks again

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

Hi, KAPowell.

I have attached a diagram of the part you need. It is part number AM134116, "Bracket" for the independent front hitch for the 4010/4110/4115. I assume your dealer can order the part separately from the kit. If your dealer need a reference to the kit number for the independent front hitch, the whole kit-and-kaboodle is listed as part BM18644.

I will also post a diagram to follow of what I think you and your dealer are looking at.

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

If your dealer is trying to make the front hitch work with the 4010's "Front Hanger" it will never work. I beleive this is the part that is used properly with your mower deck. It is part number LVA12164 and was probably ordered as a component of your mower deck attaching parts. The deck hanger is compatible with the loader. The independent hitch bracket is not compatible with mower or loader. Here's the hanger:

Re: John Deere 4010 54\" front blade

Here's a discussion thread where Keeney posted some pics of the front hitch on his 4100. Yours will basically look the same...maybe cleaner! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (Sorry, Keeney. Couldn't help myself)

4100 Front Hitch Thread

Good luck!

Not a problem, I was going to post the exact same thing.

Mine is cleaner now - it rained here the other day. I also plan to touch up the paint as soon as I get my garage built and I can store it indoors.
