I wanted to share a bit more information about flail mowers in general and upload a picture of the heavier Landpride unit with its rear gate open to show how you can mow with it that way
and also change knives/hammers on both frame size flail mowers.

This unit has a worm gear shaft that allows the mower to be manually adjusted from side to side with a socket wrench, box end wrench or ratchet wrench.

Which direction does it rotate, same as tractor tires when going forward or opposite?

What's the benefit of the door?

The benefit of the door, is it can be opened up for very heavy cutting situations where the cuttings will "exhaust" out the open area. the Land-pride also has a row of slots built across the back ( the bar across above the rear roller) they have available "spikes" that can be put in the slots to assist in making the cuttings finer by re-circulating them. Another nice feature of having the rear door opening is it makes it much more user friendly when changing / replacing cutters. Much Much easier than removing unit and flipping it onto it's back to replace cutters.
Land-Pride will be my next flail mower over my current JD 390 unit basically for those features.

Cheers

Roger

Hello Xfaxman, Boylerman and Roger,

The smallest Land Pride/Maschio also has this wonderful feature aiding in
mowing and in maintaining them. The only major issue that one must remain
vigilent about is the dreaded "Garden Hose Snake" as it offers the dreaded
GHS a greater opportunity to jump out at the unsuspecting flail mower owner
steal their cold beer and then drinking it forcing the victim to return to the grog
storage for more beer to enjoy while working on this beautiful piece of
European mechanical engineering and design.

I love it when a plan comes together with flail mowers.
