Pks, Did you have any problem with clearance on the front end steering when you put the chains on the front?

Hello folks, I called Tirechains.com today and got the following information for the man on the other end," I won't say that you aren't going to have some extra chain at the hook ends, all tire manufactures are different with their size 13.6x16 turf tires. I know that our chains fit the tires width properly, but you will have to trim the ends, maybe two cross sections when you fit the chains to the tractor. We always get requests for extra cross sections and by having to much chain instead of to little it gives you extra cross sections if you ever need them." I said thank you very much for the information and told him I would get back with them to purchase chains when I was ready. They were straight up front with me is all I can say!! I didn't hear anyone say that the croos chains were wrong for their application. Heck on the farm we always had to trim chains down for a good fit. I guess I just don't expect them to be exact when I get them. When you buy for a dealer for a specific tractor you may get the exact length you need but you will pay out the wazoo for the chains. I think I would trust them after my conversation today, but thats just my 2 cents worth.

Yup your right about different sizes for the same tire number. The chain maker is smart to leave alittle long to be on the safe side.

Shoot I've got you beat I used 6 I's in one sentence oh yea it was a run on sentence to boot, it saves alot of time not using periods!!!

So how much snow did you get this past week? We got a good inch! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I made no money pushin snow.

No offense guys but if you're going to be in the business I can't see where they can't fit the chain for the specific tractor and tire. If I had wanted to make my own chain and cut them down I would have just bought some old ones off of a bigger tractor and cut them down. When I called I specifically asked them if they would fit right out of the box and they said yes. They said I needed the cross ties to keep them tight. Well the chains I got were 8 links too big. I'm sure they gave you the story that you got because of everyone complaining that their chains were not a perfect fit. I mean how would you feel if when you got your new tractor you found out that you needed to do an hour or so of work on it before you could use it after the dealer said that it was ready to go when you got it home? If I had been told I would have to cut the chains to make them fit I would have spent the extra $40 and just bought them from the dealer. But oh well live and learn.

Dog-gone-it, you mean to tell me my tractor was supposed to be ready to work when I got it, well I'm gonna call China and complain. Seriously, I know that we all like things to fit out of the box, but take Curtis blades for instance, they say they make a blade for my TC33D that fits my loader. Well sure they do but when you get it you have to take it to a welder to have the attachment plates fitted to my tractor. Well the first half a dozen times I spoke with them they never made mention of this fact to me. I had to find out on the net just as I did in this question about chains. You can kind of take ownership for helping your fellow tractor owners "banjobj", for if you hadn't said something we all would have been in the same boat thinking they will fit out of the box. But as I say things are not always as they seem, and fitting chains has always been a part of life on the farm. If you think your dealer doesn't have to do some tweaking on your tractor before he delivers it to you , you may be sorely mistaken. But thats part of pre-delivery setup. I hope you don't think I'm being smart but," I always see the glass half full" and if the chains fit the cross width of your tires properly then you may have to remove some sections and thats a fact. I would rather have the cross width right and trim then to have the length right and be too narrow for my tire. Again just my 2 cents worth and I respect all posts as informing us to help our common goal " Enjoying our compact tractors". Hey Gordan call me some time we will talk maybe meet for a chilled beverage some place. Good luck to all and remember if they are telling us about the lenght variation now because of complaints they have changed, and God knows how hard it is for us as men to change. So I give them credit for changing.

I just ordered a set for my rear tires from tirechains.com for $162 +24 shipping, no tax. I asked him about the range of tires they fit since they had three different size tires for the same model. He admitted it was confusing but the fact is that the chains do in fact fit a range of tires. Now I also have to assume that the TYPE of tire could also have a big impact on the chain size (ie turfs vs R1 because of the lugs). There is also going to be quite a difference in how worn the tires are. (You take off an 1/8 inch of wear on a tire with a radius of 24 inches and the circumference will be almost one inch less) I don't expect a "perfect fit" because of all the variables although I'll be very happy if I don't have to do any tweaking. All in all though too long is a lot better than too short! I'll let you know how they fit when I get them. (By the way Harv I got the duo grip style so the links won't drop between the lugs. You might want to consider a set for your mud problems. I got them as much for mud as for pushin' snow)
