Mits MT180
I'm new to this form and tractors.
Just got a fine Mits MT180. Two wheel drive. BIG turf tires. 20HP three cylinder. CAT1 three point hitch.

We have a small motocross track around our five acres. 1:40 per lap. Got this machine (880 hours, $2600) as thought could use it to work and prep the track better than the tow behind drag we made for the ATV. This, with the CAT1 3PH is good as can lift the implement over bridges and jumps as not to tear them up.

I dragged my home made skid around ... works OK.

But now thinking I should get a proper three point hitch attachment.
Just want to tear and churn up the dirt a bit. Loosen it up.
What attachment would be best for this?

I see box scrappers and my buddy has a 6' I could have. It just seems to big for my little tractor. He said box scrappers work good to loosen and level. I don't really need it to level.

Thinking a small gang of discs would be the right tool..

Saw a single point plow, but that seems a bit extreme as it digs down into the dirt so much....would leave a trench.

I saw an implement (not knowing the name of it) that was like a 4'x6' matt....almost like a chain link fence, with many teeth under it. But it seems so flexible, wouldn't really tear up the dirt much. The pics and vids I saw of this were like prepping a horse arena or base ball field.

I was thinking a rotor tiller on the back of the machine would be great...powered by the rear PTO. But they are pricey and maybe a bit overkill.

So, disc harrow is the right attachment? Just the weight of the implement (and maybe some rocks on it) is what digs in?

Depends on how whooped out your track is. Your tractor is going to follow the terrain and if may be a hard ride. I would look for a rear rake and remove every other tine.

Box blade with the scarifiers. Set them to depth and dig as needed. No need for big expense. Discs wouldn't do a better job. You can angle the box blade as needed manually or get a top-n-tilt via Brian at Fit-Rite hydraulics, if you have a rear remote to run it off. The drag screens are for horse paddocks, etc.

It is a Chain Harrow, AKA Drag Harrow. Chain Harrow is flexible; follows contours of the ground.

The Chain Harrow may be fine. Alternately, consider a Landscape Rake.

As Landscape Rakes are usually used on an angle, correct width is 12" wider than your rear tire width.

FWIW, I'd say a rake would be a good choice but a box blade will likely come in very handy as well when you want to move some dirt around.

As Tomtint noted, your tractor is going to follow the terrain over whoops and such which means the implement on the 3pt is going to move up and down as well usually opposite of what you want. ;) You'll want to take things slowly until you get a feel for how the implements respond to tractor movement. Maybe rent/borrow a box blade and rake to see how they work for you before investing in one.

Some type of drag with the equivalent of scarifiers might be a better choice.

OP's tractor has 2-WD and Turf Tires. Tractor will not have traction to pull a Box Blade.

Maybe not, but his friend can lend him a 6' one to try out.

Land pride builds what they call a soil pulverizer, basically it is a heavy H beam, with about 6 inch scarifers and a roller on springs behind it works well for that sort of thing and doesn't take a lot of HP they have them in various widths. the teeth are easily replaceable and when one side is worn down, they can be flipped and the other side used, it may do the trick for you

Good idea. I've got a Leinbach soil pulverizer and it would work pretty good for the OP's intended application. I bought mine well used, but I'm sure new ones are much more expensive than a box blade.

OP, I'd suggest trying a 4' or 5' chain harrow. You'll probably have to make several passes around the track with it because one pass won't do a whole lot. But since this is just for fun anyway, that shouldn't be a big deal.

I used mine on my gravel driveway for quite a while, until I got a land plane and it seemed to work quite well after a few passes things were stirred up pretty good!!
