I have looked online at some of the seeders from Brillion, Land Pride, Kasco, Woods and Frontier, but cannot determine if there is a seeder that will plant legumes, grasses and grains in tilled ground as well as in land that is not tilled (such as pasture renovation). Does anyone have any experience with one of these seeders (Woods FPS, PSS or LandPride APS, OS or Frontier BD1307 or similar) that will be sucessful for no-till as well as on tilled ground? I might want to plant grasses or turnips or rye (and maybe even beans). I can go to the dealer, but they might be a little too 'positive' about capabilities. Is this asking too much from one machine? It doesn't have to be perfect, just capable.

My no till planter is a Truax, much like the Great Plains. It has three seed boxes, one for fluffy seeds like native grasses, one for grains or cool season seeds, and one for small seeds like clover. Basically if will plant anything. But, it plants all seed at one depth, say amount 1/2 in I'm guessing. To plant corn at deeper depths, it requires buying and installing different depth limiting parts, but for my needs, I just don't worry about that, as I'm planting food plots, not high yield agriculture . And frankly, I often mix peas, wheat, oats, rape, clover etc in the same box and just go with it. It is fast and germination is very quick and good. The ground doesn't matter whether tilled or not, but obviously when the ground is brick hard, it's not a time to plant. If no tilling, I also round up the existing weeds and bush hog it low before planting. Planters aren't cheap. I bought mine used for about $5000.

This year I prepared the soil by discing some areas and in others, I no tilled. Can't say it really matters. It works in both as long as the ground isn't too hard or the stubble too high and thick.
