Hey,

Brand new to the forum. I've read lots but just registered.

I'm looking to buy this mower as the price is right ($300). It needs a new bearing and probably some new knives but other than that looks good for what I need. Can anyone tell me what make it is so I can determine parts availability.

Thanks,

Josh

No idea what make but mine is some what similar, bearings you can buy any place they sell them and I ended up ordering the knives from the US to save money for approx. $1 a pair it was a few yrs. ago and I can find the address where i bought them. The dealers here also sold those type of blades ( Knives).

It's a Mott.

It will probably need a new belt and you will probably want to fab up a pulley cover as well if you're not finish mowing with it. I would order a PTO input shaft seal from the same place, when you order the new knives.

Wonder how long they ran it with all that bailer twine in it? :)

Knife replacement is a LOT of work.

It looks exactly like my Mott. The pulley set up is different though, on mine, the third pulley is spring loaded and the belt goes to the outside. Might check to see if that one has been modified. They are very good flails though, mine is old as heck and still works great.

I'll go with the Mott crowd as well. Here is (was) mine in the middle of rebuilding.

However, note that the pulley arrangement is on the opposite side of the OP's.

Thanks everyone. I did a bunch of photo comparisons last night and had come to the same conclusion but am glad to hear it from all of you.

I think I'm gonna go for it and then work on those knives this winter.

Will definitely rig up something to cover those pulleys as it will be used mostly for mowing down cover crop and also finished crops.

Any suggestions on where to buy knives etc... for this?

Thanks.

Since your on this side of the continental divide you should contact flailmaster for a
catalog for your Mott Finish Flail Mower.

One more thing, you buy replacement knives for the flail mower you cannot work on them and
you will be needing many pairs of them and knife hangers.

you should not have any issues buying a replacement V belt guard
for the flail mower from Flail Master or Alamo Industrial.

Right. By "working on" I meant working on replacing the knives.

Flailmaster is an awesome resource!

I bought my knives from Flail Master.com they have a break down of a lot of different brands. Mine is a hammerknife74 the replacmment cutters were about88 cents a piece and then they had clevis and pins also mine too 72 or 76 knives if you bought over 150 dollars shipping was free so I bought a new belt some pins and clevie and a tension spring took abouy an hour to replace cutters if you can't fine web site let me know and i will do more research
