5 ft rotary cutter choices

The KK light duty cutters have terrible hitches. Too light, same with the light metal straps back to the tail wheel.

Pick the cutter up and you can see the whole thing flex.
I've had a King Kutter 6' cutter for years. Never a problem with it. Never saw it flex.
It is twice the cutter of my previous John Deere 513 cutter was.

Is that a standard KK version?
The "professional flex hitch" and Heavy duty versions are different.

The standard ones with just the thin 2" by 3/8" or so bar straps that form the A-frame, and two even lighter 2" straps that anchor back near the tailwheel.....those flex alot.

IF you have that type, you may just not be noticing it. Raise the cutter and then go use a little body weight and bounce the tail wheel a bit. You will see all kinds of flex.

KK ist the only light duty cutter I have seen with the light A-frame. Its actually hard to fine a used cutter with this type of setup that isnt bent somewhere on the hitch.

Slip clutch. It takes about 15 minutes once or twice a season to set it to the proper tension.

I have a KK mower and the hook up and tail wheel metal is not strong enough for rough treatment on uneven ground. I love the way it cuts and highly recommend it for light duty pasture work. If you are using it for the tough stuff, you will not be as happy. I like the shear bolt for a smaller(5 foot) cutter.

Here is the EA underside of rotary cutter. That stump jumper doesn't look very tough....

I agree, the photo shows no depth or definition. It does show that the deck is welded underneath. If you look under a Land Pride, they do not weld the joints under the deck.

Here are photos of the stump jumpers that we use.
They are 20" diameter and 1/4" according to my tape measure.

I looked at Bushog, Land Pride and Woods 6' rotary mowers today. If I were buying again I would buy Woods. Still seems to be the best made mower. Mine has never caused or had any issues.

Looks pretty tough to me. I bet it will more than do the job. I think a rotary cutter is one of those things that you can buy by weight. A 600lb cutter is better than a 500lb cutter and so on. Less vibration and more durable. They are not all that complicated. You do need a bigger tractor with a heavier cutter.

Ok folls...i have made a mistake and glad i caught it. I do have a 28 hp tractor but the pto hp is only rated at 22 hp. Was going to get the Woods BB60X but it requires a 25 hp pto min. So i must down grade to the lower model. Was looking at the Kodiak but i see where they were bought out in May of this year. So now will look at the Woods HC60.
