Massey Ferguson GC1720
Hey all. I currently have a Massey Ferguson GC2400 and I'm interested in adding a grapple thumb to my bucket. I don't need it a lot, so I have trouble justifying a full grapple, I also have a pin on bucket. Adding a "thumb" to my bucket seems like it would be sufficient for moving small amounts of brush, an occasional log, etc.

I've done some searching, but the smallest bolt on grapples I have seen are ~150lbs and up. I'd like something under preferably under 80lbs. Anyone know of a company out there manufacturing small bolt on grapples?

I guess the lack of replies means there are many (or perhaps aren't any_ options out there. About the smallest I have seen is from Precision Manufacturing, which weights in at 125 lbs, which is still a bit heavier than I would like.

I just put one of these thumbs on my Kubota B2920. I bought the 20" and it bolted right up easily and works great. I believe the shipping on the thumb was like 63lbs. Shop Online

A thumb would definitely be better than nothing, but a Wicked Grapple would be the cat's meow!

I sold one of our 50" Wicked Grapples for a Massey DL100 pin on loader yesterday.
It weighs 255 without the lower intermediate slats installed and 274 with them.

An important consideration for us small tractor owners is how much does an entire package (attachment method, equipment) weigh compared to what we have.

Your pin on Wicked probably weighs about the same as his bucket. I think that's about what the bucket weighs on my B7610.

And to the OP -
Do you have pallet forks?
With a $149 pair of clamp on pallet forks and a chain or two I was able to get sort of a "poor man's grapple" which greatly assisted in clearing 1/4 acre of brush and bamboo.

Thanks for the responses. I'd love a full grapple, but I don't have a quick attach bucket..and Massey doesn't offer one, at least not yet. There are aftermarket solutions, but they are more cost, and push the weight out several inches. Considering my infrequent use, I'm looking for a low cost option, so The Thumb looks like a great option!

I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. I've used a full grapple for ten years and couldn't live without it. A bucket grapple is not as efficient but is 100x better than a standard bucket for handling brush and similar debris. I haven't looked recently but I'm pretty sure there are easily installed kits for the BX. You'll need to either add a set of rear remotes or a diverter valve to control it.

I have pallet forks and a real grapple. The pallet forks are a huge improvement over the factory bucket, but the grapple is still vastly superior for moving brush. A set of pallet forks with a thumb would be a good compromise, but still not nearly as good as a real grapple.

Since the OP has a pin on bucket, I'd vote for the add on thumb/grapple. That lets him keep his bucket for hauling loose material. And BAP gave him a great source.

If he were QA I might vote for an open grapple to swap back and forth with the bucket.

I built a Grapple onto a Bobcat low-pro bucket. I have the best of both worlds.

I did this to a Kubota BX 2200 scut with great results. Electric diverter valve from KBOH and the thumb from greens machine. Worked very well.
