Hey guys. My first time here so Hi. I have a Kubota G2546A blower that needs bearings but i don"t know how the auger comes apart from the impellar. there is a coupling with a small bolt holding the 2 couplings together i think and also a shear bolt through the shaft. does the 2 couplings come apart into 2 seperate shafts. trying to get at the bearing behind the impellar. thanks.

Never worked on one, but from looking at this photo I found on the web,

It looks like the central gearbox has two bolts attaching the gearbox to the central support that should come out, then the bolts holding the bearings on either end need to be removed. At this point you may be able to flex the auger enough to swap out the bearings, but you may need to look for whatever provision there is for holding the driveshaft to the gearbox so you can pull the entire auger assembly off.

From the sounds of it, you're right at the point I described. Look for a set screw on either end of the driveshaft that runs the secondary. If, after a careful examination, nothing seems to hold the central driveshaft onto the gearbox but friction (an unseen force known to mechanics as "magic"), use a rubber mallet on the gearbox and attempt to pull the gearbox off of the driveshaft.

I'm thinking you're missing a set screw that locks in a key on the driveshaft running the secondary fan.

If you see nothing, stop and think about two things:

1) How does power flow to the auger, and,

2) How did this thing run down an assembly line and get put together.

Power flow and thinking about how the blower was assembled should help you think about how it comes apart as smaller assemblies.

If you're still stuck after reading all this, then take photos of the shaft going into the gearbox and good photos trying to show the various components of the driveline and post them. One of us will likely be able to puzzle it out and advise you.

I ended up cutting apart the bearing and it all came out in one piece but i got bigger problems. the large top sprocket came loose and scored the shaft and wore the key way so i will need a new shaft. Looking at my parts manual for the blower i don't think i can buy just the impellar shaft so now what. this shaft looks a lot like any shaft in a walk behind blower. guess ill take it apart and see if i can match it up with something.

Can the shaft be built up and ground to shape?

If it looks like it can be, bring it to your welding shop and ask if it can be repaired?

I had an old shaft off a craftsman blower. it was longer but the keyway was there and it was 1 inch so i took it to a buddy who does machine work and he machined it to fit. looks exactly the same now, just a heads up that outher blower parts may fit with som TLC.

I had an Ariens snow blower that sheered the teeth of the worm gear in the gear box. They had a special oil for it that they said you needed to use because of the pressures inside the box. If you took yours apart you may want to see what the correct oil/ grease Kubota recommends.
