Grew up farming but never used a plow like this: massey ferguson 4 bottom plow What do you think.....decent plow? Want something to break new ground for food plots etc.

In picture this appears to be a Category I plow, which would be compatible with your Branson 5220 tractor, which has a Category I Three Point Hitch. (Make sure it is not a Category II plow or it will not fit the Three Point Hitch on your Branson 5220.)

If it is a 12" plow your Branson with 55-hp and (tractor only) 4,123 pound weight and 4-WD will be able to pull it fine.

If it is a 14" plow your Branson may have to grunt a little but should still pull it satisfactorily.

(Measure from the center of one plow beam, to the center of the next beam.)

$275 is a very good price. Go for it.

Also have a 125 horse IH with cat 2/3 hitch. I know that one will pull it!

You can PULL a Category I plow with a Category II/III tractor, but you cannot PLOW with a plow and tractor that are not matched. The tires on Cat II/III tractor will be too wide to roll in the bottom of a 12" or 14" plow's furrow. Tractor and plow have to be compatible. You cannot brute force a moldboard plow and turn sod successfully. See LINK, same issues:

Got it. Thanks.

I had a similar three bottom. That is a good price, and looks in good shape. Don't see how you could go wrong.

Only thing I see missing is coulters. If you are breaking out sod it's going to pull considerably harder and not do as pretty a job because of the lack of those coulters. They slice the sod just ahead of the moldboard for a clean cut.

Good price though.
