I have around 120 acres i do a lot of food plots, timber management and some farming. Im looking at either the wicked grapple or a notse winch. Im having 2 acres cleared of hardwoods so i will have a lot of timber to move around this summer. Not sure which one i will use more? Any suggestions

If I could have only one, it would be a grapple, and some long cables and blocks to do the pulling.

The logging winch can be used for little else, and you will probably use the grapple all the time for many jobs.

Grapple if used as it should be; the grapple can take you right up to the base of every log. Grab it with a set of log tongs and pull it on out. Worst case hook tongs to chain and hook to tractor. Frozen ground lets me get around in my woods quite well. Grapple is like a shirt pocket. Always useful.

What tractor do you have? What is your FEL lift capacity?

Are you more concerned with getting log length wood out to a landing relatively far away? Or are you more concerned with logging slash cleanup of branches and tops?

I personally would choose the grapple hands down, but depends on your specific situation.

Logging winches are MUCH more common to find a good used one on Craigslist, whereas grapples for tractors are much less common. Might be better to splurge on a new grapple and keep your eyes open down the road if you decide you need a winch.

You can carry a lot of logs in a day using the grapple alone (and never have to get off the tractor) as long as the logs aren't longer than your trails are wide.
You can do SO much with a grapple alone.

Take a look at the grapple photo thread for ideas on what you can use a grapple for, and think about how useful you think it would be for your situation, verse how useful the winch would be (pretty much a one job tool).

(Photo thread is in my sig under "best attachment ever")

Kinda like cheese & crackers, a good combo!
If I had to start with one, it would be the grapple.

Beat to death, really?? You asked the question about which to get first, and there's only one page of responses. I hardly think that qualifies as beat to death. It's a good question. Now gas vs. Diesel, that's been beaten to death.
And how many lids a grapple needs has been beaten to death multiple times.
