So I have to ask and make a decision today.

What should I get, drive 45 minutes and get a Frontier 72" mower (which is all I really need for mowing 10 acres) for $1000 or drive 4 hours (8 hours round trip) and get the Woods Brushbull for $1600. Both are in great shape, I realize the Woods is a beafier unit but I also assume the Frontier is a good unit as well.

What would you guys do?

Save yourself the time and money and buy the Frontier. It is a quality brush hog.

Even Wood's lightest duty Brushbull, the BB72X looks to have better specs than the Frontier RC2072. They have comparable gauge decks and sides, but the brushbull is 2" deeper, 110lbs heavier, and is rated to cut 1.5" material vs 1" with the Frontier. If the Woods is a BB720X, you can cut up to 3" material, have a 12" deep deck and a thicker top and sides. The real question is what type of mowing do you plan to do? Just 10ac of pasture and field, the Frontier might be fine. Neglected fields and brush, I'd opt for the Woods.

The Woods blade retention system is a big + for Woods! You do not have to deal with a nut torqued to several hundred lb ft. I am not sure the spec 400-450 lb ft?

Woods makes a

BB72X light brush bull
BB720X medium brushbull (which is what I have)
BB7200X heavy brush bull.

I think with the 720 or 7200 is an awesome deal for $1600.

For reference, in 2014 I paid something like $3500ish for a new BB720X.

Here is my BB720X in action.

The unit is a BB72X. So maybe there isn't that much difference between the Frontier and the Woods?

"Frontier" is a collection of stuff Deere sources from other manufacturers they can't build competitively. Who builds the Frontier R/C's?

Not sure who builds this unit, but I have a 72" Frontier finish mower and it is a Woods unit, great finish mower...

I believe the 4,5 and 6 foot Frontier cutters are built by Tarter, and the 7 foot built by Woods.

So if you are going to buy a Tarter why not just go find one at a Tarter retailer and skip the Deere price?

Or opt for the Woods.
