Can't remove PTO shaft from auger's gear shaft

Oh, that's way different. Pick it up lay it on the ground, and chain it to a tree, post or ????

Pull on tractor end to separate shaft or pull off auger end of shaft.

Are you sure the gear box turns? If PTO Shaft is this bad, did previous owner do any maintenance?

Yes, the auger turns and has gear oil, no sign of leaks. All is good there, just the PTO shift is the booger.

Yes, I can chain it to a tree. Should've thought of that.

There's not a spring clip or something preventing it from pulling off is there? I fought and fought getting my pto shaft off my brush hog until I realized there was a spring clip I had to remove.

@cutthroat, dang good suggestion, that will definitely be the first thing I'll check. I've not had an implement with a spring clip but it would not so odd either. Thank you.

I would not put heat on it, you may ruin the gearbox seal(s). I'd split the yoke with a cold chisel and remove it in pieces. Then put a new shaft on it. You might try drilling out the shear pin/bolt hole in case there is some flashing holding theyoke on. Else, crow bar.

Propane is a lot cheaper than MAPP and would work just as well for this indication. You're not trying to weld or braze, just trying to heat the metal. Propane is more than adequate and half the price of MAPP last I checked.

Knock the U-joint apart then use a puller. You might have to cut a hole in the gaurd, but I don't think so.

If so, then hook your tractor or ??? to tractor end shaft and carefully pull, to see if you can separate the two parts of the shaft.
This is how I separated mine. One side of the shaft attached to a tree with strap and the other side attached to the tractor. Had to put my tractor on the downslope of a hill to give added force. Gave it a few sharp tugs but it finally came apart.

I would pull on the pto shaft with a come-a-long type ratcheting device so that I can control the force. I would use a propane torch to apply just enough heat to melt a wax candle held onto the shaft. The wax will flow into the joint and lubricate it. Then take two large hammers and hold one against the seized yoke. Hit the opposite side with the other hammer several times. Tighten up the come-a-long and repeat till the yoke is off. Good luck

Mapp is no longer sold. All you can get is Map Pro which is not as hot as the old Mapp gas. I think the Map Pro is only a couple hundred degrees hotter than propane.
