Hello fellow tractor folks. I don't post a lot, but I am a full time lurker. I have a purchase coming up in the near future. I will be buying a six foot finish mower in the next month or so and I want some opinions. I want any one who has knowledge on this subject to please reply. I have three different categories that I want feedback on.

Supreme
Category One: If price were not a factor, which brand and model would you buy?

Good or Better
Category Two: If you were on a medium budget, which one would you buy?

Garbage
Category Three: Which one would you not purchase again? And why?

I live in Hammond, Louisiana and don't want to travel beyond 200 miles to get it. Delivery is an option. The mower will be used on a 2910 or 3130 Kubota on fairly level ground, about five acres, and a couple of yards.

I do not want these purchase recommendations or opinions to be influenced by the way the dealer treated you, good or bad. I want you to strictly go by the performance of the machine itself and the build quality.

Thanks, Bill

Had a Befco 60" rear finishing mower for about three years now...replaced the belt once, sharpened the blades...then just grease and ensuring the correct oil level in the gear box.
Does a really nice cut.
I got this when I bought the tractor (both used), but the asking price new at the local John Deere store is around $1800.00.

Since I'm more interested in the results then the brand, guess I'd go for another Befco when the time comes (most likely, years away...).

Hi first off most 3 pt ht units are farely close on the reliability issue. cat.1) landpride rear discarge, cat2) same i realy like the cut and able to trim close on either side of deck, clippings are also dispersed evenly across width of mower.cat3) cina mowers,or a unit with only two wheels, four wheels follow ground alot beter. I forgot if you asked price so i'll tell you anyway landpride fdr 1560-$1750. In new england i might add!

i have a befco right now and it by far the heaviest duty and well built mower i have had. i had A KK before and it was ok but i was a pain to adjust the belts or change them, the befco is very easy to adjust and have not had to replace any yet. if i had to get another, i would probably get another befco. oh BTW it probably falls under catagory #1

want to add that mine is 5' RFM and pulling it with a kubota b2400, so with the tractors u are speaking of u will at least want a 6' mabey more. also keep in mind that a finish mower(don't care what brand) will not give u a good cut if u let the grass get to tall or it is to wet, it is going to clump.

My opinion,
All 3 catagories = First Choice or under any other name as long as it was manufractured by Sicma in Italy. Someone said here priviously that Sicma made First Choice, Koiti, WAC, Goforth, Darrell Harp, and possibly ATI Finish mowers.

I have owned Woods, Bush Hog & now First Choice. It is the best I have owned and the least expensive.

Here is another thread on finish mowers.

I have been using a 4' Land Pride finish mower with side discharge. I will be buying a larger Land Pride in the near future. I like the side discharge for one reason. Come summer here the fie danger can get severe. A couple of passes throwing everything to the inside makes a good fire break in dry grass. If I let the grass get high, I make two passes at right angles and take it right down especially if I let dry a day between mowings.

I just bought a 6' Sitrex finish mower. I have assembled, greased and checked the oil level in the gear box but have yet to get to use it!!

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing - Try to get last years model regardless of which one you choose..

This is very important when regarding price. Steel prices have gone through the roof recently and in pricing mowers I saw an increase of $250 dollars from last years model to this years. If you buy soon maybe you can save a few bucks.
