I know there have been many threads on the Rip and Dig, but I couldn't find any that answer this particular question. I have a MF GC1705 and want to know if my machine is capable of using this implement effectively. I'm planning on digging about a 250' long French drain as well as some other projects. I'm wanting the French Drain to be about 12" wide and 12-18" deep. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

I emailed this question to the makers of the product. I'll post their response when I receive it in case anyone else wonders if this product will work on their SCUT.

I am not sure what a rip and dig is, but you will have to make several passes to get any kind of plow type implement to go 18" deep. Can you post a picture or link to this implement?

It's just a shovel looking thing you put on the front of a bucket. The only think would be getting enough break-out force to actually dig to the depth you need with it on the front of the bucket. It might work, and it might not, but it's a bit of money to try out on a hope. I would get a backhoe for your tractor or just rent on for the day.

I was interested in this because there are several other projects I have where it would be useful. I probably my only need 12-18" of depth. I can also rent a 10" wide trencher, which is $200 for the day. That may be my best bet. Backhoe is overkill for this and not as effective as the trencher in my opinion.

No way I'd try to dig a 250' trench with that, it would be extremely slow going and frustrating. How would you even handle the spoils?

x2. Not to mention the stresses concentrated in the middle of the bucket. I can't see that being useful for anything more than digging a small hole to plant a tree or pop out a small one.

I recently bought one and tried it out on my BX2370 today. You don't want to do long trenching with it. Would spend a lot of time forward and back to get the dirt off to the side. To be effective with it you need a larger machine. The SCUT doesn't have the weight and power to dive in and take big scoops of dirt.

Good for smaller holes and the bushes that are on my honey-do list.
