<font color="blue">and what might I consider using it for?

Here is what I found on free-tractor-manuals.com

The Sub-Soiler is designed for deep breakage of hard low ground where water accumulates. Water will drain easily after one pass with a Sub Soiler.

Some TBN'ers use it as a tool to dig a trench for wires. Like a invisible dog fence.

The subsoiler's brother is the middle buster...

It's also handy for laying wires, small pipe, or conduit up to 14 inches deep.

Shoppintractors, the image you posted of the subsoiler is exactly like mine except for the color. The braces running from the sidelinks to the toplink have a decal on both sides. If you go back and look at the model John (JWE) got, it is nothing like this. The main beam looks much smaller and has no side support at the toplink. I think his unit is just one step beyond a prototype and is nothing like the full-sized subsoiler.

I checked every weld on my subsoiler and they are all well-formed beads with what looks to be good solid joints. The shoe is mounted with the correct hardware. I didn't have a chance to use it this weekend, but I will give it a try soon. One thing I did notice is that the main beam is made from 1" thick by 4" wide stock. I may break a weld, but I'm not likely to ever do any damage to the beam.

One thing you can use a subsoiler for is zone planting. You would drag the subsoiler in rows in your garden in the fall and next spring you would plant right over the sunken areas left behind. This gives the plant's roots more access to deeper moisture and allows them to grow bigger/stronger and with higher yields. I think most people may use a straighter rod, but the subsoiler can be used in some areas. John

You are correct. JWE's subsoiler is from the KingKutter "XB" line.......designed smaller to accommodate the category 1 three point hitch of the Kubota "BX" line. The standard size subsoiler had issues with dragging the ground with the BX's three point hitch fully raised.
