I am just about to use an older disc harrow for the first time and need to know some basics. The harrow looks in excellent shape but hasn't been used for perhaps 20 years. It is about 6 feet wide overall with 4 gangs, 2 in each row. There are two adjustments. A long handle close to the hitch clicks into a number of slots and I guess this will adjust the offset. I want to have the discs running straight in order to move it down my driveway to the shop for greasing.
The other adjustment has a short handle with hole for a rope I guess. This looks like it might be a brake attached to a gearbox or enclosed chain which I guess will assist in changing the offset. Do I change while pulling or by backing up ?
I haven't found any name but the cast iron cover and case of the chain/gear have part numbers which start with letter H
Thanks for your help
