What implement you guys think i should use next? Keep discing or maybe try a plow or hd subsoiler? I think a 4 shank ripper would survive and help break up stumps. At some point ill need a finishing implement. Cultipacker, harley rake, or something similar. Probably going to grow hay when its ready.

My thoughts would be to disc as deep as I could first to provide a softened surface. Then use a landscape rake with every other tine removed. Depending on the amount of trash you may be able to go 50 feet or 150 feet before dropping the thrash but build this trash into rows perpendicular to travel to pick up.

I would then run a land plane grader scraper across the field to smooth it and snag anything left that sticks up above the surface. You may need to raise and make more piles to remove debris but you should end up with a surface smooth enough to plant for hay. Using a cultipacker to press the small trash into the surface and cover the seeds.

You would need to make a judgement call as to how clean the field is at this point. If clean enough you could go straight to hay, if not you should consider using it for pasture grazing allowing the nitrogen fertilizer and cows walking over it to speed up rotting and break down.

If you want it completely clean beyond that it will cost more money and work per acre. I would suggest it is more reasonable to have a return on the cows grazing the land and help defray the fertilizer costs. Oxidizers make a huge difference in speeding up. the rotting. The stumps below the surface will rot over time and should not be a problem for the hay equipment.

In the 1970's I had an Amco 6' offset wheel disc, by far the best small disc I have ever had. I keep an eye out for one but haven't seen one show up in a long time.
