New EA Land Plane(LPGS)

I'm pretty sure I'd NEED the rippers. By the pictures, the Road Boss appears useful on gravel but I don't have gravel. I need to break up the top layer of clay and spread it even. That's where the rippers would be beneficial, I think. If I can back-drag a 2,000+ pound dozer blade over it and not break the top layer, a couple of angle iron bars won't hack it. I appreciate the response though as it has some important information to consider.

I just had a light go on! :) What if made flat plate skids for the sides of the dozer blade? (Similar but larger than that used on snow blades.) This might control dig in. The problem is my blade doesn't angle--Yet. I've got two 4" cylinders for the task and there's already an unused control valve on the dozer. I just need to make the angle coupling for the blade.

I sort of doubt that your dozer blade is 2000lbs from the looks of it. Also you are dragging backwards, the LPGS would be cutting into the ground, not using the back edge of the cutting edge like you are with the dozer. I have a dozer also, trust me when I tell you that the LPGS is far better for road maintenance.

As far as putting edges on your dozer blade, yes it will help, but it's no LPGS, plus I thought you wanted to use a wheel tractor?

Good luck with your decisions. ;)

Judging by that picture, money would be better spent on some new pads!

Why? The pads work fine for farm duty. And the "street cleats" don't damage the yard while traversing and they're great for packing the driveway. It's a 1956 pipe layer and is not entered in any shows. At my age, the next custodian can replace the pads.
