Wondering if anyone knew any of the specs on these cutters that seem to be lacking. Specifically looking at blade tip speed and overlap?

Looking for specs on the 8' and 10' cutters. Found some references in some old threads that Kodiak and titan were one in the same? Not sure if that is still true, but the specs that are listed look pretty similar.

Kodiak HD10.....weight 1480#, 7ga deck, 8" channel sides, 5/8" stump jumper, series 5 PTO, min 52HP
Titan 1810....same same same

The kodiak does only have 100HP center and 90HP outboards where as the Titan is 125/100.

And pictures look almost identical. To tailwheel design, strongbacks, a-frame, etc.

But aside from weather they are the same or different, I cannot find any info on blade speed or possible overlap? currently there is a kodiak HD10 that looks in pretty good shape near me for $1100. Which is about 1/2 what I can find any other used multi-spindle mower for.

Also looking at specs on howse (as howse, Kodiak, and Titan seem to be the big 3 of low priced multispindle cutters), I am confused at the blade speed difference between the howse 8' and their 10' models.

The howse 10' medium/heavy cutter (which is about 400# more than titan/kodiak) lists 13616 fpm with 1.46 outboard gearboxes. Reverse figuring a little math here... To get that tip speed, each blade would have to cover a 5.5' diameter circle. Pretty good overlap.

But their 8' HD cutter boasts 15,369 fpm. More my liking but how do they get that with a 1.46 ratio as well? To get that kind of speed, each blade would have to be covering OVER a 6' diameter circle. So something seems a-miss here. As a pair of 6'+ cutters side by side would need a TON of overlap to only result in an 8' cutter:confused:

I know, alot of questions here, but my primary concern is trying to get blade tip speed and overlap info on titan and kodiak cutters if anyone has that information.

Got the specs I needed after a few calls.

8' are 11,981
10' are 14,977

4" overlap.

Those are the titan specs, which he said are the same as kodiak, as their model is based loosely on the kodiak. They made some improvements to the hitch area, as well as powder coat instead of paint.

That pretty much rules me out of wanting a 8' cutter of either model. Blade speed just too slow.

Have you looked at the John Deere MX8? I just saw some specs on it that said it had a blade tip speed of 15,739. That sounds pretty good.

Of course, green paint is typically expensive, but it might be worth checking to see if you can find out who makes that one for Deere. Maybe it's cheaper in another color.

Haven't seen any other brands that look even similar.

At this point, budget is only gonna allow used no matter the brand. But was wanting to compile specs so I know what used ones to look for. The Titan, Kodiak, howse, etc are $3400 -$4000.

The new rhino, landpride, woods, bushhog, deere, etc are $5500+. Almost double.

Even the used 10 year old deere, rhinos, and bushhogs I saw were still more than a new Titan @ $3400.

So I'll keep waiting till something comes up affordable. Or I'll just build one before I shell out $5k+. In the mean time, I may settle on one of the many sub-$800 7' cutters I see until the right deal comes along on a multi-spindle

Look & see if there are any Fred Cain cutters in your area, they are made in KY, i had a 10'r that i wish i hadn't sold a few years back along with a bigger tractor.
It was a great cutter.

I saw that one too. I have been looking all of ohio, and some nearby cities in MI, IN, KY, WV, and PA. That ones is quite a bit more than I want to part with.Like I said, I would build one from scratch long before I spent $4500.

The thing that caught my eye was that he was open to trade/barter ... Never know what he might be looking for.

Here are some of the ones that keep catching my eye.

Dont know if any of them are a "great" deal or not. I like the kodiak being cheap. Because if I get a 10' mower, its gonna get the deck chopped and hinged to told up to be under 102" for trailering. Google woods 214 and you will see just what I want to do. So dont really want to chop up a $4000 cutter.

That 3209 is about the heaviest cutter on the list there. Most of them are 1300-1600#. That 3209 is 2500#, and has 205HP center box and 190HP outboards. Now that would be a beast of a cutter. But with the weight, I think it would require leaving the loader on or some other form of front weight.

Ended up getting a used woods ds96. Pretty decent shape overall. Mowed a few acres at my place and I like how it cuts.

Gotta mow 7 acres tomorrow.

I had been eying this cutter, but it was more than I wanted to spend, and 1.5 hrs away. But bid on a 30 acre job and got it, to be done next Monday. So I made the drive.

Still think I would like a lighter 10' cutter. And hinge the deck to trailer. But no hurry now.

Need some front weights now. If I have to mow any hills, I'll need the loader on for sure. Had to back on the trailer.

Will post up some pics tomorrow
