Kubota BX22 that was left to me by a dear friend. B7300 w/MMM
Does anyone have any experience with Bxpanded forks? I've been using some homemade bolt on forks that have broken and welded several times and I'm ready for something different. All comments good and bad appreciated.

Thanks

I had the BXpanded forks for several years and used them hard. I often had them loaded heavier than the tractor would lift without help. No issues with the forks or the mounts at all. The only downside is they are obviously out past the bucket so the lift capacity is reduced. I also modified some grab hooks to mount on the fork mounts on the bucket so I could unpin the forks and pin on the hooks. Overall they are a good attachment for the money.

Do you happen to have any action pics? Curious how much you are able to load them up. I am contemplating a quick attach and forks vs. the BXpanded forks. Big difference is cost but also load capability I think. Love my other BXpanded accessories though.

De, on another site, I've heard of problems with a pin, not sure which, becoming bent/loose and allowing the fork to fall off. Have you had any issues with that? If I had to guess, its the mechanism that clamps tot he top of bucket that the fork mounts to.

I'm not sure if I have pictures, I'll look. I didn't have any issues with them coming loose. I did eventually sell them and purchased the Kubota Q/A for the loader and the Kubota forks. I like the Kubota set up a lot, but they were roughly 3x the price.

BXinNH, how long and how much did you use them? If I buy the Bxpanded forks they'll be put to heavy work straight out of the box. Right now I've got 17 fourteen to eighteen inch pine trees down in my yard I had to have cut due to beetles and a drought we had a couple years ago. A logger was down the road from me clearing a house lot and for $300 he brought a machine and laid them all down for me. A tree service was going to be 7 to 8k but their price included cleanup. The tree service was sight more than I wanted to bear. I really don't want to purchase these forks only to find out they aren't going to hold up.

I have a set of four and have had the same experience as Matt. They are very strong and you run out of lift capacity before I could ever damage them. The pictures on the site show him lifting his backhoe! There are a couple things to be aware of:

One, notice the pictures on the BXpanded site. The forks attach at the top of the bucket, then drop down vertically past the bucket lip a few inches where they right angle out as forks. This means that when the forks are parallel to the ground as you slide them under the item to lift, your bucket is already curled down a ways.

If I'm using them to move piles of brush or to pile stuff up, the dump angle is somewhat limited by this. That is, when you dump your bucket fully the forks won't be anywhere near vertically down. I can usually just shake the bucket some and the brush will slide on off of the angled forks. If I've got the loader way up high to dump on a pile the forks can sometimes be too level at max dump angle and I may have to get off and shove the brush off, or just have a bit lower and wider pile.

The second thing is the quick attach. This is a pretty ingenious mechanism and the same used for the bucket hooks. You can very simply add forks, hooks, and reposition them across the bucket width as needed. However, I've found that, as mentioned above, the "W" pins do loosen up over time and must be readjusted.

These are the pins that go in the mount unit, then push down and snap in place. They put tension on the mount to the bucket lip and keep the mounts tight to the bucket. Over time the pins seem to loosen, or lose some tension, so you have to put them in a vise and tweak a little more bend back into them. I wrote to Harry at BXpanded and he sent an instruction page on the procedure to tweak the right bend back into them.

I've been pretty darn happy with all the stuff I've gotten from him. I have his forks, both type bucket hooks, trailer hitch, sprayer, carry all, backhoe and loader dollies. They've all been great for my uses!

The forks themselves are strong enough, but the setup for attaching them to the bucket lip on my bx25d doesn't work well. The initial fitting needed some serious hammering to get them on. Because the forks are free to swing, each time they swing down, they bang against the lower bucket edge. This pulls the mounting bracket forward, and constantly loosens the clips holding the brackets on the bucket edge. The clips regularly fall off as a result, which makes the whole thing unsafe and frustrating. The clips quickly bend enough to lose their effectiveness. Harry was kind enough to send me rebending instructions and even replacement clips, but I couldn't solve the problem. Eventually I replaced the clips with bolts, which means that I can't easily reposition the forks. At least they don't keep falling off. A second problem is that they bend the bucket lip under load. I would not recommend buying them . I have had the same problem with the bxpanded chain hooks, and have used the same unsatisfactory remedy. Eventually, I will replace them with bolt-ons.
The bottom line is that these forks are suitable only for very light duty, occasional work.

ehenry, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the forks. I used them lifting logs similar to what you describe and did not experience the issues that frogpond described. I ran out of lift capacity well before damaging the forks. I did tweak the top lip of my bucket a bit, but not with the forks. I fitted grab hooks onto the fork mounts and by pulling hard on a single hook in the center of the bucket I bent the bucket lip a bit. Good luck with your clean up project!

Matt.
