Hi everyone,
As the title says I have a Fordson Dexta tractor onto which I have attached a Caroni TM1900. As you will probably know the Caroni has 4 connection points for the lifting arms.My question is this, can I connect the arms to the inside 2 as opposed to connecting 1 outer to 1 inner. I hope this makes sense. I could do trial and error but I'm getting on and can't do to much grafting.
Regards

Welcome to the "Flail Mower Nations" woodseaves.

No worries your inquiry makes sense. As far as the lower links and the lower link connection points its a
matter of choice and to which ones you use and how wide your lower links can span without putting more stress on them than necessary as they work best with the widest of width for the integrally mounted implement.

Using the two outer lower connection points on the Caroni TM1900 Flail Mower frame allows you to have a more stable rear mounted integral implement.

JUST BE SURE THAT THE PTO SHAFT IS THE RIGHT LENGTH. YOU CAN FIND VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE TO SHOW HOW THAT IS DONE AND WHY.

Just so you know if the PTO shaft is too long it will damage the shaft and your power take off.

If you raise it all the way up the arc of travel for your three point hitch is not equal; meaning the higher it is raised the closer the mowers arc of travel will come to the mule and it shortens the PTO shaft as it collapses and if it is not cut to the proper length to allow it to collapse fully it will cost you much money to repair the mule and replace the PTO shaft and the flail mower right angle gear box especially if you have the supplied Cardan PTO shaft.

After this is done you must make sure the lower links cannot sway or be allowed to sway very little as the mower will want to move sideways when raised due to any side slopes or simple movement of your mule and GRAVITY and the last thing you or anyone else needs is an integrally mounted implement swinging from side to side while moving when it is raised or lowered while doing work.

The reason the flail mower has two sets of lower link mounts is to allow the end user to have a flail mower that can be front mounted if desired on a narrow bidirectional tractor or to allow its use on a smaller low profile vineyard or orchard duty mule with a narrow lower linkage mount for an integrally mounted implement.

Ask us lots of questions, get spare Kevlar belts for your Caroni TM1900 Flail Mower and spare knive hangers and knives and mow and you will be very happy with the results.

If your mowing tall brush you need ot check the mower a few times as the long pieces of brush will get wrapped around the inner bearing flanges and create a huge amount of heat that will cook abearing if you do not keep track of the brush and remove it.

You also need to remove the V Belt cover and scrape and wash away the rubber and grass dust several times per season so that you do not miss a grease fitting while servicing your flail mower.

Be sure to use a bubble level to level your flail mower from front to back to make sure it operates properly and it also prevents premature knife damage from impacting the sod.

OH and ask if anyone has an extra gear box vent extension for your mower as your going to have a gear box that burps oil-no worries about that as long as you keep track of the oil level though.

If no one has a spare gearbox extension fitting you can buy them form British Metrics. Teh extension is a metric hydraulic fitting that screws right into the metric pipe thread of the gearbox.
The folks at British Metrics know what you want as many of the members have ordered them from them and everyone has our member Island Tractor to thank for that helpful hint.

Your TM1900 flail mower will easily work with a new mule if you decide to trade up a frame/power size so no worries there.

Welcome to the "Flail Mower Nations"

Happy Mowing
