Hi folks-
I'm currently in search of backhoe bucket pins for a model 32 backhoe..When I bought this it had makeshift pins still in it. I may need a bucket too. Does anyone have any idea of the standard sizes on these pins?

Doesn't look like they changed much (if anything) on the buckets (mine's a 35 on a 580B) and it doesn't look like your bucket itself is bad - mine looked about like that when I got the 580, and the tooth shanks were in about the same condition as yours (useless) - so I cut the old shanks off (if a tooth comes off and you keep digging, yours is what they'll look like)

The teeth are supposed to be a "wedged on" fit to the shanks, once the shanks are worn down the teeth will ALWAYS fall off 'cause they're allowed to rock around on the shank.

If you go looking for a replacement bucket, you'll likely find you can buy a welder (if you don't already have one) and side grinder and new shanks and teeth, do the job yourself and STILL save about HALF what another bucket would cost you...

Anyway, in the process of re-doing my 2 foot bucket, I found out the newer ones had FIVE teeth - so once I had the edge cleaned up I bought 5 new shanks and teeth and "upgraded" mine. That was over 10 years ago, and they still look new and NONE have fallen off.

The bottom of my bucket was getting pretty worn too, so I had my local steel supplier cut me 4 new wear strips out of AR400 plate and I welded those on too. Haven't touched the bucket since, and it's still fine.

Pins - prepare for some "sticker shock" there too; factory pins will run you around $60-80 EACH, if you're lucky. I'm in the (slow) process of modding my 580 for several "eclectic" uses including a quick attach system for the loader/grapple/brush bucket/brush forks/forklift forks, etc, so I'll be needing SEVERAL pins - I bought 6' sticks of oil hardened drill rod and will cut them to length - I don't push mine as hard as commercial users, so for $8 per pin I'll squirt a little oil or grease once in a while (I would need about 12 or more of the $60 pins otherwise)

Anyway, that's MY take on this, thought you might want some options - good luck... Steve

Oh, BTW - that price for pins is the shorter 1-1/2" ones for the LOADER - haven't priced/found the longer ones for the hoe, probably more $$

Awesome..thx guys...Hard to tell on mine since previous owner used undersized rod and oblonged holes. My bucket is good its just the holes. I'll price my local steel shop for rod price too...good idea.

Picked up 5 ft of 1.5" and 5ft of 1.75" of cold rolled steel rod at my local supply. Price was 78.00 for both and I have plenty extra.. That will definately get me by and then some. Like you Bukitcase, I only use mine occassionaly at home. Thanks again Rutwad and bukitcase
