Tractor
JD4320 with TNT, electric diverter, cruise control and air suspension seat.
I am researching a tiller, rotary cutter and box blade and currently am leaning toward Land Pride for these items. The tractor I would be using them on will have between 44-48 pto hp.

I was wondering which brand would most individuals would rank as the best for ruggedness and quality? I realize that this is subjective, but would like your inputs if possible.

Thanks,

Doyle

It's even worse than that, Doyle. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Those are all good brands, but don't they all make different "grades" of implements as well? I'm most familiar with Bush Hog and know they make light, medium, and heavy duty implements. As far as I know, all the others do, too. So, yes, it would be subjective and you would need to know model numbers to know whether you're comparing a heavy duty Landpride to a light duty Bush Hog or vice versa. I'll bet you'll be happy with whichever one you buy.

I like the Wood cutter if for no other reason than the way the blades are attached. You can change the blades with a 5/8" socket instead of a 1 1/4" of larger with cheater bar. I can change both blades in about 10 minutes with only a 3/8" ratchet.

Bird,

Yes, I know that I have stirred up a hornets nest with this question. Would be looking at medium/heavy duty models because of the pto hp of the tractor.

My problem is that I will be getting a new tractor, too. Probably a L5030, JD5205, NH TC55da or Case DX55, depending on which one I decide I like.

The real problem is the dealers and the attachments they carry. It looks like I will end up buying the tractor at one place and implements at another.

If this happens, I was trying to get an idea of who thought what was best.

As far as rotary cutters go, this is how I would rate them:

1. Rhino (hands down)
2. Bush Hog
3. Landpride
4. Woods

Certainly nothing wrong with that, except that you can frequently get better prices by buying a "package" deal.

Bird,

I know what you mean about the package deals. Best package quotes have come fom Kubota dealer so far. I imagine after I see the separate prices I will end up going with a package deal.

Land Pride is at a JD dealer, who is not that flexible on price. The NH dealer I like only handles Bush Hog & Kuhn. Another NH dealer that I haven't talked to handles Rhino.

The Kubota and Case dealers have Rhino implements.

What's your rational for the rating order. Around here I never see a Rhino and Woods and Bush Hog are tops with Land Pride a close second.

Kuhn also makes excellent equipment. I had a Kuhn tiller until it was stolen. It was replaced with a Land Pride because of price. Landpride is good, but Kuhn was more heavy duty. Of the tractors you're looking at my personal preference is the NH TC55 which is based on one of New Hollands most popular and reliable models and shares many of the same parts. The model I'm referring to is the 2120 and I've had one and used it hard since 1987.

Andy,

I've posted this in the past, but my opinion on putting the Woods mowers last comes from conversations with my dad. My dad's business mows 400-600 acres PER DAY down in Cape Coral, Florida. He has tried most of the mowers out there. Several years ago Bush Hog gave him a mower to use for a season to get his feedback on what the company could do to improve their mowers. This year Rhino is doing the same. These companies love to get input and see how their mowers fair with such large use.

I'm sorry if I offend the Woods believers, but of all of all the mowers he has used, Woods is by far the worst. He was constantly having to repair the darn things. Even the wheels would fall off for Pete's sake!

His company now ONLY mows with the Rhino 15' and 20' flex-wings (Super Heavy Duty)

I am sure that for the average Joe out there any mower would work fine. I am just giving my 2 cents to those that may want to know how some mowers stack up when fully exercised.

Oh, for those wondering -- the tractors he uses are John Deere 7210's, and he has been in this business for over 17 years.
