I am looking for a small tedder to use on approximately 20 acres of timothy/grass hay. I have found new 2 basket Kuhns for $1800, 2 basket Vermeers for $1900, and 2 basket Tonutti's for $1950, all rotating tedders. I also found a used reel type tedder, a Pequea model, for $1350 in new condition. I have never seen a reel type tedder before this. Are they just as good as a spin type model? Or am I better off paying the extra for a spinner? I use a disc mower to mow with and want to use the tedder as a conditioner to speed drying time. I can't seem to visualize how the reel type would help the hay if it was rained on. Like I said though I have never seen this type before but it is 600 bucks cheaper to buy. What do you guys think? By the way, I am in western Pa.

Thanx,

Jerry

We sell a new manual fold 17' four basket tedder for $2,600 and the Hydraulic fold Sitrex 520H for $2,950. You will find out that the larger tedders buy you time and save fuel.

Hi Jerry--After reading your profile, and making note of the # of acres of hay you work with--I would suggest a 2 rotor type as shown in the picture below--Price is under $1200 with shipping included with lift gate truck to a 18 wheeler accessable bussiness/commercial address at your zip code--Ken Sweet

Look at used ones IMHO.

These are pretty simple machines and if you are a reasonable mechanic and can get parts you can fix one when it breaks.

I picked up and old used one for less than 1K. Sure the paint was rough and it needs new tires but it works.

The one I have is very similar to the two pictured above.

Hi Ken Sweet,

I looked at your website and it shows that 2 basket tedder being sold out? Do you actually have them available now? What brand and model are they? I bought a Fort Disc mower from you last year and am very happy with it so far.

Thank-you,

Jerry

Hi Jerry-We do have the Sitrex and Galfre in stock today--Looks like we forgot to change the website when new stock came in. Glad you brought that to my attention. In addition, We have about 250 Used items that we have not indexed into our website. The rollover rate for equipment this time of year is pretty good and on many occasions we sell the used equipment before it gets on the website. Glad you like the New Fort disc mower. We will probably be cutting Alfalfa hay here in about 2 weeks and 3-4 weeks cutting Native Grass hay. Seems to me that the season is a little later than normal this year. How about your area?--Ken Sweet

Ken,

Since you have both the Sitrex and the Galfre, Is one heavier duty than the other or how do they compare to each other? Are they both comparable in price? I don't want to buy something that is too lightly constructed. I want it to last for a long time for as little hay as I do.

Thanx,

Jerry
