Quick Hitches Pat's Quick Hitch Question

   / Pat's Quick Hitch Question #21
The top of the HF QH where the release handles are blocks the PTO shaft and I cannot hook it to my seeder that I use as a sander in the winter. The hook-up for the shaft on the sander is high and I had to take the QH off the tractor and the sleeves I put on the sander off and hook it to the 3PT arms for the past few years until I found the Pat's QH. It may work on some PTO hook-ups, but not all.

That makes sense now. Hadn't thought about that. The QH is pretty "short" so I can see how anything with a steep upward drive line angle might have issues.

Thanks for the clarification!

As I said before our RC is the only foreseeable PTO driven implement in our "fleet" and also the biggest PITA to hook up so I'm looking forward to the QH.

Usually about 3-6 months after I finally convince my Father to get something, he agrees it was a good idea (New Tractor, Grapple, QH) so my next step is rear SCV's and a hydraulic top link to go with the QH. Wish me luck. LOL

Just turn your father loose on here. He'll be buying faster then you can think from us "salesmen"

I usually do a lot of research before I purchase most things, but I have had the HF QH on all of my tractors for the past 20 years. On one of my tractors I sold, the buyer insisted on me leaving the QH on the tractor for the sale. I then went out and bought a new one for my new tractor. I still have the QH, but just purchased the Pat's QH and will try that out. Good luck.

He actually has a log-in here and drops thru from time to time - usually when he & mother are out "camping" (Moms idea of roughing it is an RV park with no Wi-Fi ).
When he's home, he's generally on go-cart & small engine forums if he's not in the shop working on his Racing Lawnmower or Drift Trike.

Being retired must be nice - LOL

I don't mind really - I just wish he would get one of them finished so I'd have another new toy to play with. :cool2:

Two New Questions about Pat's Quick Hitch:

I ordered one last week and it arrived today ... without the set screws or jamb nuts. Does anybody have an idea of the correct dimensions of the set screws (and jamb nuts, of course). I figure I can buy 'em local quicker than I can complain to the manufacturer.

Second question:

Is there any particular technique for installing the shims to true up the hitches parallel to the lift arms? I haven't gone much further than to compare the shims with the quick hitches, but it seems they are just a squack too big. Am I supposed to bang them in?

This is for a John Deer 1025 ... the only attachment (at present) is a Frontier rotary cutter that I'm too old and fat to wrestle with.

Regards,

Gus

   / Pat's Quick Hitch Question #26
The set screws supplied are grade 5 3/8" bolts. I cannot remember the length supplied because I shortened mine. They are now 1.5 to 2" long. Some posters indicate problems with grade 5 bolts and recommend going to grade 8. I have not had a problem with the grade 5 bolts after dismounting and remounting them two times when I removed Pat's Hitch to mount my snowblower for the winter. However, the last time I did notice the bolts were a bit stiff to remove which suggests others' concerns with distorted and broken bolts are warranted if you plan to remove the hitch often.

I had to remove and reinstall Pat's hitch for the winter because my snowblower's PTO shaft was too short for the extra 4" distance Pat's hitch added. I have since got a longer driveline for the snowblower and will not have to remove the Pat's hitch again.

I shortened the original bolts because they stuck out a fair distance on my Kioti DK35. I also added a new flail mower this year which required a bit more dead-on alignment for the hitch to mate with the clevis-type arrangement. In so doing I modified a couple of 2" or 2.5" bolts I had on hand. The reason I mention this is because those bolts' threads did not cover the whole bolt length as the ones supplied with Pat's hitch do. It was no problem because I had a die to extend the threads to the bolt head. The point is, you want bolts with threads the entire length to the head.

I don't recall difficulty for fitting the shims. You choose the appropriate sized shim to align the hitch and there should be roll pins to keep them in place. You should be able to simply slip the shims in. The final adjustment to prevent movement is made with the u-bolts.

Added: You might want to contact your supplier or the manufacturer directly regarding the missing bolts. I was short one of the bent washers. I contacted them via the Pat's hitch website and they sent the washers quickly. And they sent out three sets (6 washers) for free.

Very good service for an outstanding product! I think you'll like the Pat's Hitch.

I use my stabilizer bar as a line up tool and then remove it, set on the bench or on an implement I am not using. I have three point attachments of various vintage and they have different pin mount widths. I am sure glad I have it, and hate it when I misplace it!

I have a set of Pat's. I am glad some people find them useful. My set contained both right hand ends. I don't know if that is the way they all ship, but I can't use the slide latch on the left side.

I tried to communicate about my concerns but I was ignored. I would not buy them again.
