Better with full pressure

Will have to actually get out and use it to know for sure. Difference in that board ain't real revealing

Not sure about that. Three teeth trying to bite. And remember about a 4:1 due to mechanical advantage. So that's the difference between about 500# on three teeth, (bout 166# ea) vs 2000# per tooth (667# per).

Yes, I'd say those upper tines should go thru that board like a hot knife thru butter.

500 or 660# in a square inch is plenty to puncture the board. I can snap one by hand.

Thats two of you who said that, but I just dont see that ever happening without a much larger cylinder.

Its a 2" x 8". And with the mechanical dis-advantage of the tines and cylinder.......the grapple can close with ~2000# of force at the tips.

there are 3 tips. So thats 667# each.

I just dont see how 667# on a 1/2" wide rounded nose tip would ever do what you describe. Perhaps with a short board, spanning only a pair of lower teeth, and only 1 top tooth coming down on it with the full ~2000# force....maybe.

But I did take it out and grapple some logs I have out back. MUCH better. Can actually pick stuff up just by pinching it, rather than rely on the curve of the lid to get under the log. And it actually has enough power to pull the log in where it gets a good bite. Need some more real world seat time behind it, but I think I can live with it now.

Oh...! Grapple face-off competition! What should the rules be? Board dimensions? Number of tines? New thread?

If it wasn't so stinking hot I would go and see what mine would to a 5/4 deck board.. I assume that is what LD1 has there.

Yep, just a deck board from Menards.....but they claim their "thick deck" is 15% thicker.

According to my calipers....1.250 thick.

I am sure if the tines were pointed instead of a rounded off end....bout the radius of a golf ball....it would act more like a hatchet and probably split the board, instead of acting like a ball peen

Yeah, that is going to be a problem with comparing grapple strength with a "standard" board. The boards are not standard, and the grapple points are all over the place with each manufacture being different. It wouldn't prove a thing if I stuck on in my "wicked" grapple and split it.
