Hey everyone,
We just picked up our first tractor almost 2 weeks ago from a fella in TN. He included a 5' bush hog that is quite stout. He customized the bush hog and made it with thicker, more durable steel which is nice but unbelievably heavy. He said he had it looked and at and that the tractor can handle it in terms of use and moving. The one issue with it is that its so heavy you have to lift it in slow motion in order to not stand up on the back wheels. Also, it becomes a much bumpier ride while moving this thing around. About how much weight do you think we need to put on the front of the tractor?
thanks in advance!

If I were in your shoes, I would sell that cutter and find a 4 ft regular duty. The 5 ft that you describe is too much for that tractor to handle safely. Ken Sweet

I have a NH 1925 , it handles a 5 ft hog just fine . The machines are similar

I think he means the beefed up mower is just really heavy and that presents a handling problem. I had a 1900 and a 2110 and they are nice tractors but on the light side. You are right that he could handle a regular 5'--or even 6'-- mower but just maybe the added weight is too much.

If you do want weights, the New Holland skid steer weights (60 lb I think) fit the front perfectly and you can often find cheap import knock offs instead of buying dealer weights. Same for rear weights plus one of the older Deere weights fit my 2110 bolt holes. One of the problems is you can only add five or six weights to the front and that's not a lot of weight.

Worth noting is that those NH skid steer weights also fit Kubota and my old 1900/2210 skid steer knock off weights are now on my L4300.

OEM and aftermarket 50 and 90 lb weights are available. No reason to thing 270 lbs wouldn't make everything safer and more controllable. The weights fit right on your existing front frame with a 1/2"x2" or so bolt, nut and washer for each weight.

Ok I will definitely look into those weights! thanks for all of those options.

And right now buying a couple of weights seems more simple than selling and replacing the bush hog itself. The tractor itself can definitely handle a 5 ft mower, the only issue is that it has been heavily modified and beefed up and thats why i was thinking that weights would just kind of off set everything and give it more stability.
