I bought and old double bottom Dearborn plow and hot to play around with it this weekend. Power line has not been worked in 40+ years and you could tell. I did not know it at the time but I have since find out I own the hardest ground in the state of Alabama.

I need your assistance in assisting the plow. My ground is not level with a difference in elevation of maybe 30' over a difference of maybe 100 yards. Not a gentle slope in one direction but a hill top, down about a dip of 30' to the low point and then a rise again to the end point also about the same height. My problem is going down in one direction is fine, Plow is centered. However I do not back up and plow in same direction. I am plowing in a rectangular direction. So coming back up in the opposite direction the plow shifts in the top link and is now off center. Because of this the plow shifts and I no longer plowing in the last furrow. I have adjusted the stabilizers to the maximum extent however that is not adjusting the side play in the top link. Suggestions?

You have a dramatic weight shift when reversing slope direction.

You have to inure yourself to plowing up or down, not both.

The truth can be hard to bear.

Waiting for moist soul will make the ground much softer. You probably need four days of soaking rain, then one day of drying. Still, only up or down, not both.

Gotcha. Thanks. Did not know that. Plowing the power line currently to try out new toy, sorry, new implement. That and also logging company in past month finished cutting timber and they used this area as staging area for 150+ trailers of timber to haul. What was packed clay/sandy soil became concrete it seems. I plan on getting a dozer into level area I want to push up stumps and ripper to clear land for garden.

Plowed every night after work this past week. Disc harrowed it and today finished broadcasting winter oats and used a homemade drag harrow to cover the seed. Today whipped my butt with the temp being 98. Where is the cool weather when you need it? Hopefully will get a shower or two in the next few days to get things growing. The size of the area that I was working was 40 yards by 100 yards.
