My tractor did not come with a drawbar for pulling simple pinned tools like a hay wagon, or anything to connect a ball to. It seems like the current standard option is a 3 point hitch receiver. Are there other options? Are there precautions to take to be sure it does not lift up? I think I saw the king kutter one comes with a chain, but most others don't, such as the heavy hitch. How would this help?

My tractor weighs around 3000 lbs, and I have a single axle 6' x 8' trailer. How much can I comfortably pull? How about on slopes? I regularly travel 10-15 % slopes.

Don't know what tractor you have but if the draw bar is missing you can buy a replacement at most tractor supply stores.

If you opt for a 3 pt hitch receiver you should have a check chain to prevent the 3 pt from lifting / raising the arms should the trailer be loaded tail heavy. The tractor 3pt can lift the arms but there is nothing to hold them down except the tongue weight of whatever you tow. Your 6 x 8 trailer by itself doesn't weigh much and probably has a max hauling capacity of 3K or less. On flat ground you will be fine towing 3K but stopping may be a problem on slopes because the trailer has no brakes and the tractor only has rear brakes. If you are only going to move around a few hundred to maybe 1K on the 6 x 8 you should be fine, just keep most of the weight on the front of the trailer.

For an example, I used to regularly move a 6K travel trailer with a 3500 lb. tractor for mowing purposes but only on flat ground. I would never attempt that if I had to move the trailer up or down any slope with only tractor brakes.

I'm with George. Search for a drawbar for your tractor.

I built this hitch assembly a few years ago which works very well on the 3pt. But you risk it rising. Has never been an issue for me and I use it a LOT.

Titian Attachments has several models. I got the one that will work with my goose neck, has spots for hay spears, and the receiver hitch.

ovrszd - I love your set up, especially the pocket to store the spare pin hitch. May I borrow that idea and get mine modified? I keep forgetting where I put mine.
