Been about 3 years or so since I got this blade, finally had the chance to add the hydraulic ram.

This was a spare ram I had sitting around from a previous project, and in truth the stroke is a little short, so I can't spin the blade all the way to 45-deg but it's still very workable. (Of course, if I need a sharper angle I can always pull the hydraulic and just use it manually)

Anyhow... I had to build a couple jigs to find a proper mounting location to maximise the cylinder stroke.

Cut and shaped the ram brackets out of 1/2" plate and drilled the 1" pin holes.

Welded the brackets up...

Then did a fit test...

... Then connected the hoses & fittings, sanded and repainted her... And tested her out. Played in the gravel for awhile and everything works great!

FYI ... The blade is an 8ft Servis (now Rhino) HD blade, weighs around 900 lbs.

I sold that white F250 V10 a couple years ago now, have had that F450 6.0 PSD since. BulletProofed it this spring.

Although I also just picked up this '89 F250 plow truck...

How's the LS holding up? And how's the 6.2L working out in that new truck?

That's a stout backblade! Oh, great job!;)

I am kicking around the idea of adding one to my blade, which is 7', 700#.

I like the weight, it cuts good. Just wish it was an 8' or 9' blade to better match my tractor. Which is why I haven't done anything just yet. Still looking for a bigger blade.

What size cylinder did you use?

I have a question about the hydraulics when you do something like that because I don't have a full understanding of what the relief valve built into a double acting control valve protects. I know it offers pressure relief protection when the valve is active but beyond that is a mystery.

Do you need to or should you provide additional relief protection for the cylinder to act when the valve is in the neutral position (closed), and say the corner of the blade hits an immovable rock. Or does the relief valve built into the control valve protect the cylinder from shock pressures when the control valve is closed ??

Thanks.

Relief valve in the control doesn't protect what you describe. Partly why I asked what size cylinder he used. Most blade makers use a real large cylinder to compensate. Too small of a cylinder = increased pressure in the line. And greater likely hood of bending a rod or blowing a line.

One could always add a pair of relief valves in the circuit aft the valve, but they would need a return to tank for when they do need to "relieve" themselves

Looks very nice TSO. If we lived closer to each other, I'd have you build me one.:D

Thank you LD1. Understood.
