I need a landscape rake to spread and level some dirt and loam over about a 1/3 acre area. I have a BX22 and the dealer nearby suggested the Woods LRC60 Landscape Rake with the gauge wheels. He has one left over from last year and is offering it for $800. Is that the right sized rake for my tractor? Does that sound like a good price? If not, any suggested dealers I should try? Thanks for any input.

Mike... I have a Howse rake and new it cost $300 and the wheel kit adds an additional $120. How often you are going to use it will be a better question to determine if you really need to buy one. If this is going to be a one time use, I would be glad to loan mine to you. You could probably do that 1/3 acre is a week end or two. Mine fits my BX fine. Don't know where you are, but if you are anywhere near Southbridge, consider the offer.

Mike,

If you want to level things out you probably need gage wheels. I don't have them on my landscape rake, and it is hard to level out top soil, at least for a guy like me...

Smoothing crushed stone on an existing driveway, or dragging trails clean of leaves/twigs seems to work fine without gage wheels.

Sounds like whatever you get you will need gage wheels to more easily level that third acre.

I pull a 72 inch behind my BX2200 without any problem, at least as far as I can tell. I had that size for my larger tractor, other wise I might have bought a 5' rake, but a rake is not a box blade... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hope this helps a little...

Hello Mike.
I bought a Landpride LR1572 (72") rake last week. I paid $525.00 plus tax. I thought that was a good price.

The gauge wheel kit was another $325.00. Im gonna wait to buy the gauge wheel kit. I thought that quote was a bit high.

I haven't gotten it home yet....too wet here to get back into the woods and get my trailer to haul it home.

hope this helps.

FYI
I just picked up a 72" Farm Star(Worksaver) brand rake from a local farm supply for $279. It is not a commercial duty product, but seems as good as some others I saw for closer to $400. You can see it on:http://www.worksaver.com/

MikeA . . . The Woods LRC60 is part of the Woods Estate Series implements that are specifically designed for the sub-compact class of tractors. Many people have used regular sized implements on their sub-compact tractors and found that they work, but that they encounter some inconveniences such as the inability to rotate the implement while attached to the tractor.

Woods equipment is generally considered to be one of the better made product lines. The cost of Woods products are typically higher.

As for the cost, lots of firms make cheap stuff. If you only occasionally use the piece then the cost for quality might not be worth it to you. I have some expensive implements and some cheap ones. The quality differences are striking. However, I will buy the cheaper unit if I don't expect to use it heavily or often. I do not like the trade offs with some cheaper implements, many are poorly designed and adjustments take tools instead of more convenient locking pins, etc.

If you don't plan on doing other projects with the rake.

Consider calling around for a dealer that rents 3PH attachments.

My rake has gage wheels. It makes a big difference in how well leveled the finished project will turn out.

Landpride is what the dealer sells now. FYI- For a 60" Landpride w/gauge wheel kit he wanted $940. Prices are high around here apparently. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
