Grapple Which Grapple Root or Claw???

Nice grapple.

I've been using my 72" American Attachments LD grapple and it has been a lifesaver. I waited for a year to get the hydraulics and grapple after buying my tractor and really enjoy the utility of the components.

I have an area behind my tractor shed that is full of honey suckle and lots of old attachments my father put back 14 years ago or so. So far I've pulled out 4 plows, a Cultimulcher, a 305 and 306 bush hog, a nice offset disc, and some other scrap. Guess I'm gonna be busy working on getting this stuff reconditioned.

I guess I have my nomenclature wrong? :confused3:
That's not what I'd call a root grapple either...
I thought a root grapple would be shaped like a root rake (on a dozer) with a grapple lid?

I guess classification can cross lines somewhat? I classify grapples as either claw, root, or fork. I always thought a root grapple had longer flat bottom tines versus curved bottom tines on the claw eventhough the claw is indeed a root grapple?

I think the best way is to refer to the two basic shapes. Both shapes are called root grapples by many manufactures.

Claw and clamshell are the same shape:

L bottom is the other basic shape and also called a root grapple.

I bought this one from Anbo. Not cheap but its tough as nails. In 3 years of pretty hard use, I've only broken one hose. It is pretty heavy for my M7040.

Yes, that Anbo is top of the line. I decided to go light on mine. Short drive to Denton to get it. I guess I'm fortunate to live in NC. Lots of good grapple manufacturers here in the state.

I found that 66" grapple locally and the guy wants $1250, anybody know anything about terra force grapples? Is it a good deal? I think the retail is about 1700, but that doesn't mean too much to me.. I like to find deals.

Been using my LP grapple quite a bit for the last week. A really useful implement/attachment. It has performed as needed 95% of the time coming into piles of cut trees and brush and picking up rocks for relocation. Also dropping down claw fashion onto smaller piles of brush, rocks or a small tree out by itself. The other 5% or so of the time a flat bottomed grapple like Everything Attachments sales/manufacturers would have been better to extend out front, lay/tilt back and get off tractor and load the bottom with stuff for moving. I watched Ted using their grapple claw fashion in his video before buying mine and thought he was doing it wrong by not coming up under brush piles but after time using mine I believe he was doing it OK.:D:laughing: Interesting how one can know so much more before having experience which happens here on TBN "some times". :D
Any way price and locally available tipped me by the slightest margin to the LP I bought instead of the one sold and shipped by Ted at Everything Attachments. EA sells all models but I was comparing the LP with Subcompact Compact Tractor Wicked Root Grapple 50" Single lid I believe I would also be happy if I had bought the one from him. It looks like a great grapple. I think his also has space fillers which can be used or not making the teeth closer on the EA one which also would be included in that 5% since I could have benefited a few times by closer teeth spacing, not often but some times.
I guess to me I refer to them as a flat bottomed (Like EAs) or claw (clam shell) grapples like my LP. Not sure I'd ever refer to either of them as a root grapple between the two I've mentioned.:2cents: Everything has trade offs when compared to a similar competitive item and in depth research with defining as much as possible ones specific primary uses can help one make the best decision for their needs and not the needs of their neighbor/fellow TBNer/dealer/stranger ion the street or even co worker.
