Any opinions on Kodiak rotary cutters? The one I looked at today seemed to be well built--maybe on par with the Bush Hog.

I'm looking at 5' rotary cutters. I've looked at King Cutter, John Deere, Bush Hog, and Kodiak in person and Midwest online. So far, the best deal seems to be the Kodiak for $750. The dealer is 1 mile from my house and will deliver. King Kutter is $600 at TSC, but they don't deliver and I have no way to transport something that wide and heavy. The John Deere LX5 is $900, but the dealer that has them at that price won't deliver to my area. Everything shipped gets expensive when figuring in shipping to my house with a lift gate truck.

I have the Kodiak 6' medium duty. It sounds like you may be looking at the heavy duty for that price. It should have a decal that says HD if that is what it is.

FWIW, I paid $500 for my 6 footer less than a year ago. I should point out that they are built locally (East Tennessee) and the dealer I bought mine from picks them up at the factory himself, so there were no trucking charges to run the cost up.

I like mine a lot. It is much better built than the KK models, in my opinion. I have had no trouble with it.

I recently bought a new 4' standard duty kodiak rotary cutter. I have a JD 770 approx 23 horse tractor 4wd with front end model 70 loader on it. I have had good luck pushing over trees and heavy brush with the front end loader and then the rotary cutter finishes it off. I am careful to pick the stuff I go over and have had no problem yet. It works great.
