I have a JD 4200 (26hp), and I would like to mount a Worksaver HDP16 post driver on the 3pt hitch. My local dealer claims that power beyond hydraulics be mounted at a cost of $340. The driver technician says I can run it off the bucket hydraulics. I have two questions:
1) do I really need power beyond hydraulics
and, if I do,
2) what level of expertise is required to mount this myself
(I am a decent mechanic, capable of following most
assembly directions)

Any advice or instructions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks, hess.

Hi Hess, I was looking into the same project myself last year. I own a New Holland TC33D and I'm putting a rear spool on mine. The dealer mechanic told me I can do it myself and save the shop expense. I'm not sure about the JD but I know that the TC33D only has a plate that needs to be removed in order to get the remote on. I was told that I would have to remove the right rear wheel and tire to get to the system easier. But from what I know it's remove the plate put the remote in place and reistall the plate to the outter surface of the remote . Hook up the control handle and check for leaks. I was told total install time with removing the wheel and tire was about 1 1/2 hrs. But thats with mounting the outlets to the rear of the tractor. If you can turn a wrench then you should be able to install it yourself. The worksaver unit is nice I know a man that has one and he has had no problems at all with the unit. I think the return flows right back into the sump with a special hose and fitting to fit your tractor. Good luck, Scaper

I don't know about the New Holland, but the instructions that came with the optional hydraulic outlet for my B2710 said to remove the right rear tire and fender; completely unnecessary. I just reached in there with a 12mm wrench, removed two bolts and the cover, put the new cover on with the two new, longer bolts and that was it.

You guys are causing me to rethink my options. I have to check my JD to make sure that the plate you're referring to is accessible w/out removing the wheel and fender - since this will be the determining factor as to whether I do it myself or take it to the shop.

Anyone with a JD 4000 series who might know more about this, please let me know.

Thanks, hess.

Only way you can reach it is if your wheels are in the outer positions. Would be much easier just to take the wheel and tire off. The fender comes off easily but from what i can see you could do it without removing the fender. I've got three remotes on mine. You do have to mount the lever on your fender though, or at least that's where mine was done.

According to the Deere configuration utility: Power Beyond Kit LVBM19534 $190.00. For what your dealer is apparently charging for installation I would not hesitate to install it myself. I don't think the proceedure that is used on the Kubotas would apply to the 4200. I don't have my new 4300 yet but from the picture on the Deere web site there does not appear to be much to the power beyond kit. I am not familiar with your post driver but if it has an open center hydraulic valve on it then the power beyond kit is probably the best way to go. The power beyond kit has 1/2" couplers on it to allow for maximum fluid flow to remote hydraulics. If you already have a DSCV you could also get some longer hoses for the post driver and plug it into the existing hydraulic ports for the loader. This would require that you use a bungee cord or something to hold the DSCV valve open to get hydraulic pressure back to the post driver. Also, the loader valves have 3/8" couplers on them so you might not get as much flow through them as the power beyond ports provide. Good luck.

MJB,
You're talking the sorts of specifics that I need to hear. Could you tell me the site where the Pwr. Beyond Kit can be found. I have been looking, but to no avail.
Thanks, hess.

I posted the path to the configuration utility yesterday under the "Xtra armor kit for John Deere" thread but here it is again:Link to Configure John Deere If you click on the little blue i icon next to the power beyond kit it will give you a small picture and some additional information. There is alot of usefull info available on that page. Have fun./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

MJB,
Am I thinking of the same thing or is the power beyond kit different than the remote for hydraulics hookup? My post pounder just hooks into my 3rd remote and then I can either run it from the tractor on the auxillary control on my fender or I can run it manually from the post pounder.

Cowboydoc,
The power beyond ports are not valved - there is flow through them all the time. If you don't have something connected to them you have to install a U-shaped hose between the ports to allow a path for oil flow. They are meant to be used with attachments which have open centered control valves on them, like backhoes, log splitters, etc.
