I am going to put a set of bolt on chain hooks on my bucket. Ken's offers a combo set that includes a hook for the outside of the bucket and clevis mount for the inside that is used for a shackle. I'm trying to decide how useful the clevis mount would be. I'm inclined to go with the hook only but am curious about experience/opinions regarding the combo setup.

There different types of clevis, but if your planning to use standard type there great for strap use...better than hook,

Shackle/Clevis mounts are more useful than D rings. I prefer shackles because they are closed so are safer and can't slip. I won't even use a hook on my winch and use a shackle instead. My winch cables just have thimbles for a shackle pin on the end. Also great with lifting straps because you can capture the end loops in the shackle.

The majority of my lifting is with chains, so I am satisfied with hooks on top of the bucket. Were I using straps or rope the shackles would be the way to go. On the rare occasion I need lifting straps on the item being lifted, I use short sections of straps with rings - I have always called them axle straps.
In any case, Ken's Hooks of any sort are top notch. I picked mine up at his shop and he was gracious enough to give me the grand tour.... Quite a setup, quality control, and testing of his products.

I have no need for anything other than chain hooks. If I am lifting something I am going to use a chain.

I almost always use chains. On the rare occasion I need to secure something using ratchet straps they will hook in the chain hook. So for me the usefulness of a clevis is virtually zero. My grandpa made a "clevis" mount and hooked a regular chain hook on it. It was a useful feature because he could hook the chain over either side of the bucket.

I bought the hooks/clevis mount option from Ken about 6 months ago--great product, and have gotten a lot of use, but so far, only the hooks. I don't have deep regrets going with the clevis mounts inside the bucket, and I expect at some point I'll have a situation where I want to use them. But if I were ordering again, I'd go hooks only.

Jerry, thanks for the interest in our products! I get this question quite frequently, and never can really answer it well since I don't know how someone uses or might use their machine. But, please know that the clevis mounts can always be added later if you feel the need for them, we even sell them without the hardware for just this reason.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for anything, or just ask it here!

Thanks Ken. I will be ordering the hooks as soon as I get the chance to measure my Kubota bucket to determine the spacer height I need. Unfortunately my tractor is at my property that is two hours from my primary residence so it might be a week or two until I get it done.

By the way, nice solution for Kubota owners with the "lip" style bucket.

I have both the hooks and the clevis. I do a variety of pulling and lifting and find it useful to have the option for strap. Chain is great for heavy, rugged lifts but occasionally I need to move something and don't want to mar the paint and the strap is a better choice. Also, chain can slip on some surfaces and strap has more surface contact. Before having the clevis, I admit I wasn't all too sure how I would use them but I am glad I have them as an option.
