I got a BXM32 delivered a couple of days ago. I removed it from the packing crate, disassembled the parts attached to the shipping bracket, and completed the assembly of the chipper.

EXCEPT that.....there were 3 metric 8.8 bolts and captive nuts in a small plastic bag packed with the owners manual. I can't find a reference to them in the manual. I'm not seeing any holes where they might go. I've not ran the chipper yet.

I've not contacted Wallenstein yet....thought I would check here first.

Thanks in advance :)

Those are probably spare replacement shear bolts for when or if the machine gets jammed. Look on the shaft or gear that drives the implement.

Those are shear bolts. If you lift the cover that shields the PTO on the chipper, you will see where they go. As mpham stated, they break if the machine gets jammed, which saves your tractor and chipper from damage.

Thanks for the input. I thought they might be shear bolts but when I didn't find anything about that in the manual, I assumed I was wrong. Maybe I just missed that section. I will take another look in the book and will look for it on the chipper.

Edit: Found it on page 29. No idea how I missed it before. :(

I just got it a couple days ago. Haven't fired it up yet as I'm waiting for the spring melt to finish else I'll be leaving tire tracks all over the place. Sounds like your BXM42 is working for you. I thought about the 42 but with only 28 HP on the tractor (less than that at the PTO), I didn't think I would would get full use from it. Besides that, 4" and up will typically go into the wood stove.

I ended up putting nyloc nuts on the pto shear bolts on my Wallenstein BX42 chipper. Just a thought. I have put the limbs from hundreds of trees thru it over the last 10 or 12 years. Have yet to break a shear bolt. However, I have several times had the shear bolt nuts loosen up during a day of chipping and fall off. Never had that problem again after using nyloc nuts on the shear bolts. However, the use this chipper sees probably exceeds what would be considered average usage.

Thanks for the feedback. I've got some nylocs in the garage and will take your advice. Sounds like yours has served you well. I look forward to using mine in the years to come.
