John Deere 650 4x4
Can a belly mower be mounted on a JD 650 4x4 2 cylinder? I presently have a 3pt. hitch mower but would prefer a belly mower if it is mountable.

2 things - there may have been an optional mid PTO kit that you need to run a factory mid mower. If that is not available, woods makes a few mid mowers that are powered and lifted from the rear pto/3 ph. hard to explain, but they work quite well. I know the 5 foot is called an L59 - but they do have a smaller model as well.

My old 650 used a 160 belly mower. The mower was powered by a dual function pto. The pto was mounted at the front and pully driven by the engine. The pto had an output shaft that pointed forward for a blower and an output shaft that pointed rearward for the mower. Both were operated by an electric switch on the dash.

The 160 mower came in a 3pt version and a belly version. The mower was very heavy and durable. Probably, the heaviest mower I have ever seen. The 650 had no trouble operating this 60in wide mower.

Also, the mower was raised and lowered via linkage that ran back to the 3pt and attached with some special brackets.

And, before anyone wonders, this was all John Deere equipment, not aftermarket.

Here's a pic of my old 160 mower after I repainted it. The wheels have been replaced with larger ones (by previous owner)
