I recently had some areas logged that now have low cut stumps. I'd like to hit these areas with the mower but miss the stumps. Would it hurt the hydraulics on the tractor to mow with the mower in a raised position?

It shouldn't hurt the tractor 3pt unless you are going fast over rough ground. If you're being bumped out of your seat, slow down.

You may find it's not very effective though, depending how high you're talking about. Most mower types work best when the cut height is low (1-4").

I cut with my rotary mower raised occasionally. The quality or cut is fair, but sometimes that's all I need. Last week I 'mowed' an area of warm season prairie grass I planted in June. The new grasses germinated well, but the first year they only grow to a few inches tall while they get established. The area was infested with foxtail and Canada thistle which were both about to go into seed stage. So I raised the mower to approximately 10" and cut the tops of the weeds to allow light to reach the grass seedlings. The results aren't great, but I've done this before and it works much better than doing nothing.
