Want to swap a JD 448 backhoe 18" bucket for a 12" or advise on cutting the 18" down

Hi,

I have a John Deere 18" bucket BM19569 in good condition, no visible wear, that I would like to swap for a 12" BM19568 bucket.

If nobody is interested in swapping, I thought about cutting down the bucket. By removing a 6" piece from the middle-ish section, that would include a tooth and spaced so that the remaining middle tooth would be centered in the 12" bucket. This would keep the sides intact as the bottom hardened plate wraps around the side to meet the side hardened plate(it's not a corner joint). My thought was that the sides will have more strain on a 12" bucket as they are almost inline with the ears as compared to the center, I could always add an bridge plate on the bottom of the bucket to span the entire bottom if needed. Then it would be one weld to either the left or right side of the new center tooth. Then I would cut off the ears and re-weld with the proper distance/alignment between them.

Thoughts? Swapping is so much easier, I hope someone is interested in the north east area...

Thanks for the advise,
Kevin
